steve handelsman, news 4. >>> a series of shootings in southeast washington this morning sent a school in lockdown. they happened near the martin luther king elementary school. authorities responded to the gun fire in the 600 block of alabama avenue. the 3300 block of 4th street and the 800 block of wheeler drive. d.c. police tell us three juveniles were shot. one of them was unconscious and taken to the hospital. the other two injuries are believed to be nonlife threatening. police are talking to two people tonight about the shooting but are not yet calling them suspects. the school was thrown into a lockdown but no one from the school was involved in the incident. part of alabama avenue was closed this morning during the investigation. >>> sentencing is set for tomorrow for joran van der sloot for the murder of 21-year-old stephanie flores in peru. prosecutors are seeking a 30-year sentence for the dutch native after he pleaded guilty yesterday. van der sloot is also the prime suspect in the disappearance of american teen natalee holloway. meanwhile today in alabama a judge says he'll sign an order declaring holloway dead sin

martin behrington to ceo. >> all right. for more on today's gdp number, cnbc's senior economics reporter steve liesman.nly one of them there. i'm yooused to seeing three of liesman. he's back at hq. give us a take on this number itself. >> check your contacts, david. despite the 2.8% rise in gdp, it was by the way the biggest gain in a year and a half. there is, though, widespread disappoint in the economy's performance in the fourth quarter. you'll remember there was a 3% forecast out there. consensus. here's what action economics saying. the gdp report reveemed a particularly large shortfall in growth across all the major spending components leaving a disappointing round of data over all. over at mizuho they're saying it's not a good gdp report for the growth bulls. only john rooiding had a contrarian point of view. we continue to argue that initial readings of gdp can provide a very misleading representation of the economy. here's what the story is on the surface. the performance of the economy looks good. that steady bounceback from that decline we had in the fall. and in the first quarter. but it'
