i'm joined now by retired supervisory fbi agent steve moore, cnn law enforcement contributor. t's good to see you this morning. i was struck last hour, gary tuchman, my colleague on the ground there in memphis, said he was told by police that the suspect is not cooperating, isn't really talking at this point. how much does that complicate matters if you have a suspect in custody but they won't talk to you? >> well, it's obviously going to make it, you know, make it detective work at this point. it's much easier when they confess. they own up to everything, but now the thing that's going to help the memphis police is that he didn't really do anything to really cover up his crime. he didn't think it out. he didn't plan it. this was a crime of opportunity and crimes of opportunity are the easiest to solve because nobody figures it out beforehand and nobody works hard to cover it up afterwards. >> the affidavit also says that the police found, quote, physical evidence that she suffered serious injury. that evidence is also key here in terms of potentially tying someone else to this

let's go to steve moore, trump advisor, best-selling ought thor. steve, let me talk about the 3/4 point increels, pricing another 3/4% increase at next meeting. you remind me it isn't bible you have to rate every meeting to raise or lower rates. you can do them intrameeting. so we are looking at a minimum of a 4% fed funds rate probably by year-end. we started this year essentially at zero. what do you make of that? >> that strategy i was talking about the other day with you, i call rip the bandaid off. just get it over with. that may mean more than 3/4 of a point but at this point the 3/4 will happen. i think i feel very confident making that prediction. and then the question becomes what does the fed do next? i'm looking at all these same indicators that you've been reporting, neil, and they are giving conflicting signals on inflation, no question about it. i have mean when you see what's happened with the two year, 10-year treasury, interest rate that is certainly a sign thain investors are more worried about inflation. but then you look at the g

steve moore not surprised. he was the key economic adviser to president trump. big deal here now that has crossed party lines. you don't have to be a democrat or republican to know what it is like to pay through the nose at the grocery store, the department store. it's real now. how is that not resonating? >> well, i think it is. i would predict not withstanding the tightening of the polling recently with biden's slight uptick that ultimately in the november election it will go down to the benefit of the republicans, the out party, as it typically does mid-term of a new administration. this is still tough conditions. after the upturn of the inflation reduction act, but bottom line, even with prices moderating as this sound bite you played suggests, neil, people are hurting and hurting badly. >> neil: it doesn't take long for inflation to spread in other areas what started as fuel and related energy has spread everywhere, steve. we talked about this and brought that up. there doesn't seem to be a plan in place outside of hope that the federal reserve can just rat

steve moore, how do we get the economy right with a 75 basis point rate hike by the fed and what's that going to do to the housing market in general? >> yeah, you sowed some of the statistics and looked at increase in the mortgage rate you talked about. if you buy a median household, median priced home, maybe $450,000 over the life of that 30 year mortgage, just the increase in interest rates will cost you about $150,000. this is g going to crush aspirig homeowners. we've got to do two things and the reason the stock market crashed today is when the high inflation numbers came out, investors realize the fed will have to probably raise interest rates even more than was expected and that's one of the reasons people fled for the exits. now, here's the bigger problem though, until congress start -- and jim jordan is one of my super star heros and i know he agree withs me on it. until congress starts cutting government spending, we're going to see an acceleration of inflation. we've got to -- that's why it's so ridiculous to say this bill that spends $500 billion more money will reduce infla

steve moore with us, erin gibbs and jonas max ferris. e the, howng do you think -- how long do you think they'll have the edge? >> good morning, neil. look, there are -- it was a good jobs report, no question about it. and you're right that the big problem right now for employers, it still is that they're having a hard time getting workers back on the job. we're still about 3 million jobs below where we should be if we had a normal labor force participation rate, so that's a lot of missing workers. and this whole issue is going to be so fascinating, neil, to see what happens after labor day is over. companies like apple are telling their workers to come back to the office. [laughter] and there's a lot of resistance to that. but the big problem right now with respect to employers is falling productivity. we've got two straight months of very rapid declines in labor productivity; that is, how much are they creating on the job per hour work. and part of the explanation for that, employers tell me, is their workers are not at the sites, they'

and even though we are seeing unemployment tick up steve moore was talking about, he is exactly rightason. we saw 786,000 people enter back into the labor force, that is one of the biggest numbers we've seen in years real good sign there. we have over 400,000 additional workers when you look at that survey. so the reason unemployment did tick up, is that more people are actually participating in the workforce. i think that is a really good sign. and we're probably going to see that if -- just with what we were talking about today people are seeing, less money in their savings less money in 401(k), inflation impacting them the job market is still very, very strong it is a tight labor market, there are tons of job openings 78 sectors across the board professional business services very strong retail, healthcare, lots of opportunities manufacturing, contradiction trade transportation coming back people need to get back to work we need to see that number of 2.4% labor participation, we need to get that back to 64 and 65%. >> hi that is important to watch in the future. >> stephanie as we
