my name is steve osborne and i used to be a new york city cop for 20 years. yes, the accent is real. but the funny thing is i didn't know i had an accent until i came to savannah. i was a cop for 20 years and then became a writer. people ask me how do you go from being a cop to a writer? i don't like telling this story but it happened by accident. after retiring from the police department, my life went from the fast lane to the slow lane and i had all of this to me on my hand. when you are a real cop living the life you have no life. i am working around the clock, nights, weekends, holidays, i m a.m. never home. and then all of a sudden i am retired and sitting there starring at the walls. first thing i did was move the sofa from there to there. and my wife said, what are you doing? you haven't been home in ten years put that sofa back where it was. so i did. now, i am sitting there and i am kind of bored and i don't know why. everybody has that little voice in the back of their head that whispers what to do and that was the same voice that kept me safe like
