steve patterson live in manayunk with all of the details, steve, good morning. >> good morning, nicole. actually learning about few events this weekend with the name shane montgomery attached to them. the first one starts at 8:00 near wissahickon, 5k run for shane, and then another 5k that start right here page street, sponsors by the family, all of the proceeds go to them. part of this, though, keeping the name shane montgomery in the public eye. i want to show you a picture every shane now, it has been now nearly a month since shane montgomery went missing, the 21 year old out with friends, thanksgiving morning schenn sean dollars leaving kill dare's irish pub, then vanishes. since then the fbi and police have identified video showing montgomery, walking toward the manayunk canal, that's where the search has since centered. the family, no where near giving up on this, shane's parents have not been back to work, they say new detective are on the case, they say, sonar has recently been deployed in the schuylkill, and the manayunk canal, and there are plans for an additional search. we

"eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson tells us today teams turned their attention to the manayunkanal. >> reporter: this is what day four looks like in the search for shane montgomery. seven guys in yellow jump suits with the grim task of poking the manayunk canal a few hundred times. with all the optimism she could muster shane's mother watched. >> it's upsetting to know that this is what they have to do but it's also -- i can't express my gratitude to the police department and anybody that's been helping head this search. the police marine unit started slowly wading the boulevard shortly after 10 o'clock sunday morning. with a crowd gathering along the way they searched for any signs. to give you an idea of how long this process may take you see the seven member crew behind me, they're stretched out the entire width of the canal poking and prodding every inch. they can't see to the bottom. they have to stop in case they feel something there. the commander says this may take somewhere in the area of five hours. >> i'm not giving up any hope. i'm going to find shane day. shane's u

one parent showed "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson the letter that arrived in the mail over the weekend. >> says ankle sera even bigger emotion after letter came home from her son's school this weekend. but, she says, none of that compares to how he is doing. >> mentally destroying my son. >> saturday the letter from walter d palmer charter school addressed to the parent of nearly 700k through eight student, saying at the ends of this year, school is shutting down for good. walter d palmer is a charter system burried in financial problems. in may the pennsylvania supreme court ruled the school board has to pay back $1.5 million to the school district every philadelphia enrolling nearly twice as many students as allowed. in october, a lottery was held that got hundreds of children from palmer charter while palmer high was shut down for good. the letter from the board this weekend tells parent, the monthly payments from the court decision are just too hi and they're left with no other options. statement from the school district of philadelphia sayings the walter d palmer organ
