let's check in with steve paulson. the latest on all of the weather information. >> between malibu and topanga canyon, they're still gusts 70 to 80 miles an hour. really? yes. still. so, you know, and a lot of the observations are not reporting anymore, for obvious reasons. i think they spiked and then they're gone. highs yesterday for us. santa rosa in town 72. that was a record high. santa rosa airport was closed. hayward. boyes hot springs, sonoma, san jose 70 kentfield 69 was a record high. oakland and redwood city were warm as well at 68. we have a few high clouds zipping by, but look at santa rosa. they've plunged to 39 and other locations are in the 50s. it is tonight. tomorrow is going to be really cold because wind speeds are coming down for us. the wind advisory goes till ten, but unless you're up in the hills, i really don't think there's much left of it anymore. unless it's isolated. except for the higher clouds. it's all about southern california, where it's going to be a long, long day. decreasing breeze

this morning steve paulson is talking about a little change ahead though. we will let him talk about that in just a second. thank you for joining us here on the nine. we begin with the investigation into the new orleans terror attack that killed 14 people. >> we carried live the news conference just a short time ago. >> the fbi announcing the only person responsible for the attack is a driver and gunman who was killed in that shootout with law enforcement. fbi is looking into all facets of this alleged attacker here. us born army veteran investigators offered a timeline leading to the killings. the suspect rented a pickup truck on december 30th in texas, the houston area. the next day, he drove to louisiana and posted videos on social media claiming support for isis. >> he originally planned to harm his family and friends, but was concerned the news headlines would not focus on the, quote, war between the believers and the disbelievers, end quote. additionally, he stated he had joined isis before this summer. he also provided a will and testament. >> well,

let's check in with steve paulson for our forecast. it sounds like you've been saying it's going to kind of dry off for the weekend. >> maybe for a while. this may be it for a while is kind of the way it's looking here. we'll take a look at tom vacar covered this quite well here. not only snow, but rain. it's been really about marin county. north has been really good. not too bad. around the bay area. southern california has just been awful. i mean, this is about, as you know, how dry i am. no kidding. i mean, they cannot get a drop down there. and the 16 day outlooks are not that favorable. in fact, they're actually highlighting a little bit more rain for arizona than they are for southern california. but santa rosa, reading and crescent city. life is good in the rain season so far. point reyes picked up a half inch this morning. santa rosa, a third, petaluma two bits, and san francisco has picked up a .07. that was as of about 25 minutes ago or so. our system is moving through. it's not a whopper, but it's giving rain to all. so we'l

let's get over to steve paulson. in that interview, you saw the interview. he said there was a stuck pattern. steve and i've heard steve say that a lot. >> neal and i can sit down at a pub and have a ginger ale. >> yeah, you deserve it. >> no, no, him and i are exactly the same. we're reading the same signs. no doubt about it. that was good. he was really good there. but he's right. you know, these are these are patterns that just don't break down. they're called blocking patterns and they're stuck. and, you know, maybe not as strong an event as we saw on tuesday, but it does look like a continuation of some offshore at least events will probably carry into early next week with no rain and you get an offshore wind. you can get some record highs even in january. and that's what we had yesterday. redwood city 75, sfo tied 71. both of those went back to 1962 and oakland 70. that broke the mark of 67 in 2015. what's interesting about 2015 is we had no rain in january. in 2015, at least san francisco did not. the record rain for the city back to back days when it

it was a cold weekend to steve paulson up with us this morning with a look. >> well, a little different here. the fog is getting wiped out because the wind is picking up, but it's still cold, no doubt about it. but fog is really disappearing pretty fast if it hasn't already. 30s, 40s and the breeze. there's a wind advisory up in the north bay hills. i always mention the east bay hills as well. i don't think that petaluma novato is still there. i think it's gone now as it's really the fog is disappearing pretty rapidly, but still some out to the valley, maybe a pocket or two. but you get a breeze of this nature and that takes care of the fog, especially that 15 miles an hour at fairfield, santa rosa, northwest at ten. that takes care of it. napa airport went from a quarter mile to ten and about 20 minutes the high there and a system digging in. we're on the western edge of it that is picking up the breeze. so a change is going to come and it's already started here. so more sun today and warmer after a really cold and foggy sunday for many here, temperatures from 40s 50s yesterday to 60s

steve paulson is up with us this morning for a look at your forecast for this friday. steve. >> good morning, both of you. we're going into a pretty significant change here from warm to colder, not cooler colder. yesterday was in the 70s for many. and by tomorrow and over the weekend we'll have 50s for highs. and i do think we get some rain, especially east bay and south bay down to the santa cruz mountains, san jose, menlo park, oakland and half moon bay were warm yesterday, 68 to 74. not today, 58 to 66. it will be cooling down. still nice. just not as nice as the last couple of days as there's a change on the way. the key is, believe it or not, i know it doesn't usually take this kind of a path in the highway. a low is going to come right this way and end up right over us as we head to saturday afternoon, evening into sunday morning. and that will generate some rain, maybe not to the north so much, but it's close enough. we're all mentioned. no doubt. santa cruz mountains, santa cruz, san jose, morgan hill, down to monterey, gilroy, hollister. changes in the air. su

steve paulson is right here. steve. it doesn't feel as cold outside. fog. >> there is a little bit of fog. that's the new twist here for the morning. here. mostly coast and bay. there are some 30s, low 30s for some, but mainly look at the peninsula though. upper 30s. 40s. that's a big change from yesterday. although concord is 33, santa rosa is 33. there is frost advisories apply. i think north and south and for sure in the santa cruz mountains, but east and peninsula kind of marginal. you get higher dew points. so you know it's tough to get that frost. but still novato now at least one zero visibility. santa rosa a quarter of a mile. napa has gone from a half to nine. so it is dancing around oakland airport a mile and three quarters. after that, it seems okay, but there's definitely on 80 some pockets of fog that were forming. the low has moved into arizona, just came across san diego, has since july 1st has had 16/100. that is the driest in 175 years of record keeping for that period between july 1st and january 17th. and la is not much better. that'

let's get over to steve paulson. he's here with the latest on your weather, steve. >> well, we've been talking about how dry it's been in southern california. now it's official, at least san diego. and i'm sure l.a. is going to come out and say the exact same thing. so you you make this even worse when you have wind 80 to 100mph. we've had rain here, although for the next couple of weeks i don't think we're getting a drop. so these numbers are going to drop pretty big time here. but the dividing line and now it's official san diego with only 15/100. this is the driest ever for not only the rain year which starts july 1st, but also the water year, which starts october 1st since records began in 1850. and i'm sure l.a. is in there. santa rosa, redding, crescent city. yeah. doing well, although these numbers are going to decline before we get any more rain again. la if you took the water year, which is october 1st, not even 1%. so that's how dry it is. there's just nothing there except a lot of high clouds coming in. but

according to our meteorologist steve paulson. >> that is true. i am seeing wind speeds picking up a lot though, in malibu. just so you know, malibu hills, 53mph on the beach, 32 in malibu, 45. and about 50 up in the san gabriel mountains. there's a couple of things here to talk about. one will be not yet, but this will be sunday, monday and tuesday. there will be an arctic plunge that will do this and do this, and it will be brutal. there will be some incredible wind chills and cold temps. some of the ten day outlooks then kind of follow up with one a little bit more this way. now, you know we'll see. but we could be getting in on a little bit of colder air, more so than what we've had. unfortunately, there just does not look to be anything that says, hey, you're going to get rain. 29 boulder creek, hollister, campbell, lafayette, fairfax, saratoga, stanford and danville, all between 29 and 34 degrees this morning. there were a lot. oh, boy. i'll tell you, we are hard pressed to find any rain on january 3rd. last time we had over a 10th and i don
