we are seeing similar language from trum allies including kevin mccarthy and ta steve scalise are referring it to a soviet-style. i don't expect the criticism to let up. the democrats are pointing to certain provisions in the resolution that will allow the president to defend himself. it will be interesting to see how that will all take shape. but, you know, while we have been mostly in the dark aside from a few selective weeks, it will be fascinating when this process heads into the public atmosphere. a part of the ground rules for each of these public hearings will allow for 45 minutes for the democratic staff counsel to ask questions of the witness and then 45 minutes uninterrupted for the republican staff counsel to question the witnesses and after that 90 minutes, it will shift to the lawmaker portion. we will see professionals questioning these witnesses, democrats want to make sure that process allows them to get as many facts out to the public as possible before it shifts into the political atmosphere when the lawmakers will do the questioning. >> they have called the ultimate house

i'm proud that over 30 members of congress, including our whip, steve scalise, walked into that room demanded transparency and justice for our president. i'm calling you from the scif. >> i'm reporting from inside the scif. breathless reporting today from very excited west virginia republican congressman named alex mooney. he was one of the roughly two dozen republican members of congress who today resorted to a physical attempt to try to stop the impeachment proceedings against the president by storming into the secure hearing room to try to block the testimony of laura cooper, deputy assistant secretary of defense. the administration, the white house, and the defense department, had tried to block cooper from testifying today. she received a subpoena and showed up, anyway. the republicans' plan "b" apparently was this physical takeover of the hearing room in which she was due to give her deposition. that effort did essentially chase the deputy assistant secretary of defense out of the room at the time her deposition was supposed to start, but once the republicans got bored and left

steve scalise. let's drop in. >> -- trying to run a one-sided soviet process. this is an impeachment inquiry. and, in fact, speaker pelosi's resolution confirms that it's an impeachment inquiry, yet every other impeachment inquiry we've had have allowed both sides to call witnesses. have allowed the white house to participate. that's not happening right now. in fact, not only is it not happening, but it's important for jim jordan to know what just started happening today in this committee where they're trying to impeach a president behind closed doors without any due process. >> thank you, steve. i think most of you know chairman schiff has prevented the witness from answering certain questions we have during the deposition. one of the things you do in these deposition is ask the basics, who, what, where, when, why. when we asked the whistleblower who he spoke to, adam schiff said, we're not going to allow that. every one he says this is not classified. he tell us that. the witness has their counsel there. they don't need adam schiff being chairman and lawyer.
