and so did steven zarsky. by lying to the fbi, they compounded their insider trading crime with the crime of criminal coverup. now i would like to go over to these two charts which summarize some of the allegations in the indictment. this first chart is a tipping chain. it demonstrates the flow of the illegal insider information and the trading, the illegal trading on that information. at the top of the chain is congressman collins. he had an obligation as innate board member, when he received confidential corporate information, to keep that information secret until the company announced it to the public. in total disregard of that obligation, minutes after congressman collins received the devastating, highly confidential news that innate's drug had failed its drug trial, congressman tocongress m congressman collins tipped that information to his son so his son could trade it. cameron collins. when he received that illegal inside information, he did two things, both of which are illegal. he sold stock based on

. >> reporter: collins, his son cameron, and his son's future father-in-law steven zarski face 13 criminal counts altogether including securities fraud and false statements to investigators. the crimes revolve around the australian pharmaceutical company innate. according to the indictment on june 22nd last year, innate's ceo informed his board of directors, including collins, that the company's critical drug trial had failed. news that was not yet public. congressman collins was at a picnic at the white house and minutes after prosecutors, collins called his son to tell him, breaking federal law. cameron collins moved quickly to save his money. >> he sold stock based on that inside information and he also took that illegal inside tipd o. >>ter: days later, the stock would plummet. according to the indictment, the insider trading allegedly saved the defendants and others over three quarters of a million dollars. all three pleaded not guilty, while the congressman's attorneys pointed out in a statement that their client did not benefit financially. collins says he's going to stay in office

his son sharing that information with his future father-in-law, steven zarski and others.rted dumping shares of the company. four days later, when the failed test results were publicly disclosed, the stock plunged 92%. the congressman, his son, and zarsky all pleaded not guilty. >> the charges levied against me are meritless, and i will mount a vigorous defense in court to clear my name. i look forward to being fully vindicated and exonerated. >> reporter: house speaker paul ryan says he'll let the court decide whether he is guilty or innocent, but he wants a thorough investigation, and until it's resolved, collins will no longer serve on the house energy and commerce committee. rebecca jarvis, abc news, new york. >>> president's legal team has responded to the terms outlined by special counselor robert mueller for an interview. sources say the president is not inclined to answer questions about obstruction of justice. they are willing to consider what they call appropriate written questions. a subpoena to compel the president to submit to the interview is possible. >>> th
