education -- arrangements of american schooling was offered in a fine book the learning gap by harold stevenson and james pickler. they said that the chief problem of the american classroom is not racial or ethnic diversity or economic diversity, but diversity of academic preparation. in a system with no contact of parents or cumulative net, teachers are to vsat. children are left behind. whatever worries they conceived in having a grade by grade core of commonality it would be hard to perceive a greater social and moral evil than this. zero i'll conclude, under a program which allowed what could happen when a kindergartner learned certain things in common with other kindergartners, the job of next year's teacher becomes less onerous, more democratic and result. the class can move toward as a whole without leaving children behind. so the practical benefits of that kind of educational arrangements far outweigh ideological objections. some means has to be found to overcome the lack of commonality on substance. in our early schooling. we can never expect this change to arise from within the intell

now, justice scalia is perceived as a conservative and justice breyer in the stevenson and so forth perceived as liberals but justice scalia is also thought of as a civil libertarian, that he voted to strike down the flag burning statute. can you comment on that? >> guest: i don't think the american civil liberties union would say that he is with them most of the time that he was with them on flag burning and he tells a very funny story. he will see in his speeches come on this show sign consistent in terms what is in the constitution and i didn't think that the lobby against flag-burning should stand and he kids about how he still can't stand sandal wearing scruffy people who burn the flag as he characterized them but he also kids about the day after the ruling, the first ruling, there were two in 1889 his wife, maureen, came downstairs whistling you are a grand old flag. randall stevenson from at&t talked about a successful partnership with san antonio community colleges train workers for jobs that the company is committed to bringing back from india. i think we all agree that we should look to build on this kind of partnerships and leverage the community college system. we heard from in our infrastructure section the same refrain about the need to train workers effectively. randy weingarten suggested a specific idea, community schools, especially in the wuerl areas, where parents can get training after-hours the same places where their kids are learning -- especially in rural areas. we are exploring that. what was striking is the overlap that existed in a lot of the sessions. when we were in the clean energy session, there was an emphasis on how to get small businesses and small contractors to get certified and to get the financing needed to move forward and take advantage of these clean energy sector opportunities. when we were in the infrastructure section, there was strong emphasis on meeting to plan not just for existing road projects but also ho
