stine's nightmares jump from the page to the big screen as jack black, odeya rush, and dylan minnette battle the terrifying monsters created in "goosebumps." >> when i was younger i created my own friends, monsters, demons, to terrorize my neighborhood and all the kids that made fun of me. they became real to me. and then one day they actually became real. "goosebumps" is about the author of "goosebumps," r.l. stine, and the idea is that all of the characters and monsters that he's ever created actually exist in real life and are trapped inside the manuscripts, and when those books open, out come the monsters, and the whole movie is just me and some kids from the neighborhood trying to catch all of the monsters and get them back into the books. the genius writer who has a dark side, that's why i thought orson wells was the right direction. he said, "just be mindful of my audience. i got a lot of kids who love my books, so you can be scary but , don't be too scary. you don't want to terrify. you don't want to traumatize." so we brought it right up to the line, and this guy here was con

i ended up getting to know stine and we're friends. to send snail mail letters to stine and e-mail. now days i with just tweet at them. goosebumps are back because the first movie based on the serious is out. it's the number one movie this weekend. i sat down with stine a few days ago. it was a wild opportunity. i asked him how the movie came about. >> it took 20 years, which is a long time. no one could figure out which story should we do, which book should we base the movie on. that's what script after script and nobody liked anything. then a couple years ago somebody had the idea, they said, let's not do one story. let's do them all. let's put all the monsters in one movie. afs that they were able to move forward. >> every book has three parts, a beginning, middle and a twist. is that how you think about your movies? >> that's my favorite line in the movie. that's all i care about are the twists. in every book there has to be a point where the reader stops and says, i didn't know that. i didn't realize that. that's totally different
