if you want to mow where the stock market might be headed i say keep your eyes on the bonds. i know the bond market is boring as all get out but it's larger than the stock market and more importantly it's very important to the the overall direction of stocks back in the day when i was running my hedge fund i'd call in from the road the same way. if i had to be away from my desk i'd begin every conversation by asking where are the bonds that's how much it mattered to me but stock market investors forget the bond market all the time they forgot in 2000 even though the bond market told me the economy was softening near the dotcom peak. they forgot in 2001 when interest rates were too competitive versus stocks and caused a massive selloff they forgot it when the fed raised rates 17 times in lockstep fashion in the leadup to the financial crisis, precipitating the worst downturn since the great depression there were countless taper tantrums where federal officials will strike a hawkish tone and everyone freaks out rates are going higher quickly when the yield on the ten-year treasu
