he was selected for a dog training program at the california healthcare facility for inmates in stockton, california. here at this prison they will teach obedience training and socialization skills. the dogs were bread for the program. eventually they will become service animals at no cost for people with disabilities. >> to know that he is going to go to a child and someone that has disability, very rewarding. i did a lot of taking in my life and this is just the one big step to show that i can give back. >> we get dogs that are well behaved with nice skills. the inmates tend to be competitive and work very hard on all of the dog skills. >> reporter: this is the first year for the program here at this prison. the dogs will stay here 16 months before they move on for more training. eventually they will turn skills like opening doors and retrieving dropped items. he takes in each day going he will eventually have to move on. >> it will be hard to let him go. >> reporter: it is a dog training program giving back beyond bars. >> i think that would be difficult to build the relationship with
