has been speaking to shoppers, employees, and local leaders about the attacks, joining us from stonestown with the cell phone videos. da? >> reporter: many of the recent fights here involved high school students. workers, shoppers say it's been an ongoing problem. workers say the mob attack first happened inside target. it was friday around 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. the cell phone video shows a group of students with backpacks punching and kicking a person. one kid even picked up the victim and slammed him to the ground. some kids watched and recorded the attack. some witnesses tell me they were scared to intervene, fearing the attackers would turn on them. a short time later, another atta in two victims, but the attackers focused mostly on the young person on the ground. witnesses tell me they don't know why the kids jumped the two victims or if they even knew them. the attack happened in front of this vendor and damaged some of his merchandise. >> i am very scared. i cannot continue to do business in this kind of environment. >> reporter: way tells me mandarin he's leaving once his lease is up

the issue was really pushed to the forefront after the recent brawls at stonestown, the video that got everybody talking over the weekend. two large fights inside the mall over the past week, less than two miles from the police station. the supervisors say the station only has about seven officers working on any given night. so here's what the plan calls for. expanding two existing school violence prevention programs, making sure social justice and juvenile probation are more involved with the school district, investing in programs at the d.a.'s and public defenders's offices, expanding peace education workshops, hiring more ambassadors and giving the school district more mental health support. a couple of hours ago, san francisco supervisors approved more than $25 million in supplemental funding for police overtime. this is something mayor breed has been pushing for weeks. they need the o.t. because they haven't been able to recruit or retain officers, 500 officers short after an independent report found the number of police overtime hours has tripled since 2019 and, in fact, dean pre

well, happening today, san francisco police are going to be increasing their patrols out of the stonestown mall after several fights broke out involving teenagers. san francisco supervisor miriam elder tweeted on sunday that these fights resulted in injuries. they often happen after school lets out she said, quote, we must support the kids and keep them safe along with everybody else. and with that, she asked parents to monitor their children's social media, follow what they're doing. 3 juveniles, by the way, were hurt by fireworks over the weekend out at ocean beach. now, according to police, there was a group about 20 to 30 kids out at the beach around a bonfire on saturday when several of them started lighting off fireworks. the 3 kids were hurt were taken to the hospital for treatment and park. police say 2 of them suffered some pretty serious injuries. >> in east bay, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car near livermore. the crash happened last night on the westbound off-ramp to interstate 5.80, near isabel avenue. the chp started getting calls of cars swerving to miss something
