deadly storms ripped thr >> at least two people are dead after a strong storms swept through alabama. two were killed in jervis and county by the strong storms overnight. the same system destroyed homes and buildings in tennessee and arkansas, before heading alabama. several reported seeing funnel clouds but the national weather service has not confirm whether the damage was caused by a tornado. three more bodies have been recovered from the costa concordia. this morning, they found two more. that makes 15 confirmed deaths since the costa concordia ran aground last friday. at least 19 people are still missing. italian officials say it is possible on registered passengers were on the ship. the political scramble is about to begin in arizona as gabrielle giffords announces her decision to step down from office. the arizona democrat could have continued to serve out her term for another year but announced she needs to concentrate on her recovery. she was shot in the head at a supermarket appearance last year. six people were killed and 12 were injured in the massacre. still to come, why

we have our eye on the storm. this is our doppler radar and see the precipitation is still coming down. especially in portions of the north bay. i'm going to zoom on in. you see some light to moderate rain fall there. head on over to the eastern portion of our district. just moving out of concord into the clayton area and wow, look how quickly that is moving. all the way in towards antioch. hit and miss showers and it's raining in san francisco. this is nothing. a bigger, wetter, and gusty storm system that is heading this way. we'll pinpoint that timing coming up. >> all right, thanks roberta. not guilty. that was the plea today from san francisco sheriff, ross mirkarimi on domestic violence charges he's facing. the judge ignored an emotional plea from mirkarimi's wife. ordered him to stay away from his wife and child until the trial is over. as mark sayer reports, mirkarimi's wife says the whole case is nothing but a political game. >> sheriff ross mirkarimi made no comments as he left the courtroom after a hear

the next storm arrives on sunday. not as intense. this is the strongest of the three storms.ond one. the third one is due in on sunday. just watch out for the heavy rain and wind the next couple hours. and then things will wind down. i want to show you what it is going to look like on sunday. this storm in the pacific will be moving through and it will bring a third to two-thirds of an inch of rain, but nothing heavy duty. the heaviest will move through. it is a soaker for a few more hours, and just scattered showers for your saturday morning. you will see sunny breaks on saturday afternoon. by sunday morning here comes some showers. that will move through and we will see some more widespread rain around 3:00 p.m.! this is when the big game is taking place. it will be breezy. temperatures in the mid to lower 50s for the game. take the rain coat or poncho. still cat -- still scattered showers. rainfall totals when all is said and done, two to three inches and three to four in the north bay mountains. peninsula, an inch to an inch and a half. in the south bay, one to two inches

low latitude or mid latitude storms. those storms, storm number 1 thursday. storm number 2 friday.nd there's one around the corner here that you can't see that rolls in as we head into sunday night and into monday. so the forecast storm number 1 gets here, rain develops in the north bay. i think most of us will notice the rain on the afternoon commute. it might be slow getting into the fremont area in san jose but by tomorrow evening, rain for pretty much everybody. storm number 2, heavy rain friday night. and now lingers through friday night into saturday morning, with some strong winds. i think friday night storms will have the strongest winds. there's another one behind that. a nice series of storms. the computer model lays it out like this. thursday you get into the morning hours. tomorrow maybe a few sprinkles, right? waiting on the rain. lunchtime, hey bill, where's the rain? still up here and then here, and your rain is showing up about time for the afternoon commute and watch this. boom the front slides through and we get wet. the forecast then huge as you know. it's going

you can see that's where the concentration of the strongest storms are now. we'll put this into motion you can see why. look at that curl it concerns me, area of low pressure which has its own spin coming across an area and you are seeing the intensity of these storms increase we'll watch and see if any of these storms start to rotate if it does, you know what is going to happen, possibly, very remote any time you have a low come in like that something i want to keep an eye on right now a hail maker. upper 40s in antioch and fairfield low to mid 50s everywhere else. 57 half moon bay. mid to upper 50s monterey bay inland low 50s. we are seeing the last punch out of this rain train, if you will, that has given us so much rain. by the afternoon, a few pockets of sun isolated shower possible i think the bulk of the weather is going to be this morning. clear, then foggy and cooler the next couple of nights as the dry pattern returns. as far as temperatures this afternoon, mid to upper 50s breezy, probably the fastest breezes this morning, they will hang around for

but this is what we do with the storm.ut an inch in some areas, maybe two or two and a half inches of snow. here's the tail end of it before it got out of here. it's going to start to clear and temperatures really going to drop. here's the amounts we saw. on the higher end amounts in baltimore county, a few inches and 1.8 of snow. on top of the snow in most cases, we are did have some ice. the ones are turning around in the north with the storm leaving us and look at what's doing to the temperatures. most are falling. most cases never went up but really going down tonight and you'll notice almost all of these are below freezing except extreme southern parts of the state. anything that wasn't properly treated will be refreezing in the overnight hours. please use caution. take it more slowly if you have to go out. tomorrow, excuse me, today, topped out at 32 degrees. this is going to be a process. we start out in the teens. during the day, we'll build up to about 32 degrees and then see clouds coming up in the storm. then in

we've been talking about the big storm, i guess a series of storms coming our way. got to dust off the umbrella. >> yeah, really wet pattern that is not only going to last through the weekend, looks like the first part, maybe the midsection of next week, rain showers in the forecast every day, and it looks like as we head through thursday, friday, and saturday, we'll be measuring rain everywhere across the bay area in inches. so, yeah, we've got a lot on the way, just a short amount of time. make sure you've got your storm drains nice and clean because that way you avoid any sort of localized flooding in your house. 29 in livermore. very cold conditions. watch out, make sure you travel cautiously. certainly cold enough when temperatures fall to 36 degrees or below for frost to go ahead and develop on your windshields. it gets much colder in the your surrounding area. and we could see ice all day long especially over the bridge and overpasses. we'll climb nicely until about noon, but then the clouds increase. as they do so, i think we'll only end up about 65 degrees

this storm has been a storm of extremes. in a moment the next system already brewing. first, the pictures from coast to coast because of this system and the science behind it. here's meteorologist ginger zee now. >> reporter: whipped by ice, by wind, by rain. winter devoured the pacific northwest in the worst storm in a quarter century, and it's still unleashing a fury of extreme weather and conditions. that rare snowstorm that pummeled seattle this week is only the beginning. freezing rain on the snow-laden branches and power lines and you get scenes like this. those bright lights illuminates the pre-dawn sky are transformers exploding after power lines whipped by strong winds. at least 200,000 are still without power in washington state. and it won't be easy getting the lights back on with new storms on the way. raging winds battered the coast, burying homes in sand, almost entirely. gusts, whipped up to 70 miles per hour, and near portland, a deluge, over 15 inches of rain fell in just two day, swallowing homes and leaving roads impassable. >> ginger zee joins us at
