stormrang stormranger scanning the skies and rain still over the bay area. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the storm for us. kari, how is it looking? >> the rain is light and spotty. this really doesn't keep you inside. it's just enough to where as you're walking outside, you might walk a little faster and turning on the windshield wipers. looking at stormranger, parked on san bruno mountain, part of a weakening storm system that continues to move through, bringing lots of clouds and every now and then some rain. and then we talked about another storm system that will be moving in by the end of the weekend. it's still well out over the pacific, so in between we'll have a little bit of a break. this is the way the radar may pan out and this is what you may see going throughout the next couple of hours. still some spotty rain in the south bay, parts of the peninsula and east bay. but really not a whole lot going on here. and then as we go into tomorrow, we're going to see partly cloudy skies, but overall, fairly dry. and then on sunday, we'll start t

for that we're going to send it over to our stormranger it is scanning on top of the mountain. higher resolution really showcasing the heavier pockets of rain pushing in through san ramon. if i move it down towards portions of san jose, you can see we've got pockets here and there along 680. if you're driving through there, you'll catch the occasional or heavy downpour even along portions of 280 and los gatos. we are expecting a pretty breezy to windy day. if you've got any of that patio furniture, anything that could potentially fly away, you want to go ahead and either bring it inside or tie it down pretty secure. santa rosa 26-miles-per-hour winds. we remain pretty breezy by 10:30. about 9:30 p.m., we're still going to keep those gusty conditions especially for the mountain tops and the higher elevation areas and into the north bay. san francisco remains breezy even down through san jose as well. things calm down overnight as that cold front makes its exit into early sunday morning and that's when we see a better conditions in terms of clearer skies and dryer conditions. you

here's a look at stormranger. that's our mobile doppler radar. we're getting a live scan of the rain, and when you're looking at other radars, they're about two to five minutes behind what we are showing right here as it scans closer to the ground and gives us a very high resolution and detailed look as the rain moves through. now we haven't seen a lot of it, and most of the spots that did measure rain earlier this morning only got a few hundredths of an inch. and it's still misting and drizzling in some spots. we can tell by the white splotches of green being picked up on stormranger and then we have some slightly heavier rain over those hills, over the east bay and then continuing to move away from the south bay. so only some light rain here and there, moving through the tri valley. and then pushing off towards the east. so looking at the bigger picture, we can see that skies are starting to clear in ukiah and also moving into far northern sonoma county. and this is the cold front moving on through. so the rain that we saw earlier this morning

let's track this system as we get a look at stormranger, our mobile doppler radar. that's the red scan. we have the truck parked on san bruno mountain to try to give us the best view of both the north and south bay. as we get a look at the satellite imagery, we can see the clouds that are starting to reach closer to the bay area, and even some rain being picked up offshore just off the far northwestern corner of the state. as we go into this afternoon, it will turn mostly cloudy, and then by early tomorrow morning, some of that rain starts to reach its way inland. and then this is what the radar could look like at 1:00 in the afternoon. pretty much widespread rain across the bay area. and there could be some pockets of some heavy downpours, especially tomorrow evening where we start to see those brighter colors. it shows where the heaviest rain may be pouring. so we'll continue to monitor that. i'll talk about rainfall totals and how much snow we're expecting in the sierra. that's coming up in the full microclimate forecast. >> all right. looking forward to that, ka

stormranger tracking that and a lot of light showers moving in. this will not be a strong system, and as it moves into lake and mendocino counties, it could bring in some light rain into the evening. that could measure up to about a tenth of an inch. and still looking at those high waves. even in this picture, you can tell by the white caps over the ocean that some of those waves continue to roll in. we're seeing measurements now at about 10 to 14 feet as far as the waves, and at a period of about 16 to mostly 15, 16-second swells. that means that's how long it is between the waves. we may still see breakers reaching up to 30 feet, and that's the reason why the high surf advisory continues through this evening. as we look at the storm system that continues to push up more of those waves and also bring in some rain, this one a fairly weak one, could bring in some breezy winds. and reach as far south as santa rosa, while the rest of the bay area will not see any of that rain. and looking at the potential of getting up to with a tenth of an inch of r

but let's see what stormranger is picking up. an even better idea of exactly where the rain is right now and what areas are seeing that. richmond getting showers. alejo getting showers in through orinda and san francisco the rain has moved out to the east. and look at how dry san jose is now. fremont is dry, redwood city not tracking too much rain. however, again, we're going to keep the chance of shows popup showers here and there through the afternoon. right now the temperatures in the 50s, and this is very similar to what we'll see into the afternoon. we're not going to warm up by a lot. in fact, we're only topping out in those mid 50s. so let's look at your hour-by-hour outlook. by 5:30 p.m., this is into the evening hours, again, a chance of popup showers here and there. right around the evening hours, 6:00 or 7:00, we should see the majority of rain completely make its exit. all that is left behind is cloudy skies and some breezy conditions. so your microclimate in the 50s by the evening hours, that spotty chance diminishes

but if i zoom in using our very own stormranger, it gives us higher resolution and in greater detail of that line of showers that just pushed through. this line of showers, again, very light rain. we're not tracking heavy downpours from this initial line of showers, but if you're in livermore through san jose, you might be getting some of that light rain pushing through in the next hour or so. if i take this closer, you can see exactly where we're pinpointing rain through oakland. we saw light rain as well in through the stanford area and now we're going to get showers in through los gatos. another thing we're tracking is windy conditions, and, of course, the high surf. we're talking about a pretty big northwesterly swell as we head towards sunday. i will break down the time line for that, and we'll expect to see the highest rain totals just as we head into the weekend. this is definitely something you want to pay attention to as you plan out your saturday and sunday trips. back to you. >> thanks. >>> sticking with weather, we have a surf update from half moon bay. it looks like mond
