stormranger not taking the day off, and it's activated and scanning at san bruno mountain.y parts of the bay area is seeing showers, and kari, you said some are seeing rain and the rest of us are going, what rain? >> yeah, that has been the case with this storm system moving through, especially with the rain shadow in san josÉ, and that leaves santa cruz mountains getting in a lot of rain, and san josÉ has not seen anything and that's the case also for the tri-valley. we are seeing the rain clearing the north bay after early morning showers. we have a steady rain around concord, and vallejo as well as oakland. we also have a light rain over san francisco and the south city as well as san mateo. we are seeing some of the showers continuing near the coastline as well, as we get in on this rain that has been bringing beneficial rainfall totals. we will continue to see this for the next couple of hours, and then a break later today. there's more rain behind that, and we will talk about that coming up in a few minutes. >> you can download our nbc bay area app. it's free. you can

stormranger alamo, walnut creek, oakland, where stormranger is, along the west slope of the santa cruz but still the rain shadow holding strong in san jose, the air sinking down in the santa clara valley, shutting down rain. clouds over a ridge of high pressure building west that will take the shower chances north. for the morning commute, still scattered showers but less showing up here, distinct trend from late tomorrow to wednesday and thursday. rain chances temporarily go away. we'll have to watch out for patchy fog into thursday. then chance for rain midday friday, snow for the sierra, clearing in the morning. weekend plans, saturday and sunday, clearing skies, looks like more sunshine for the weekend. seven-day forecast for san francisco, muggy, showers at times, more in first half of the day. north bay showers wednesday, thursday is dry and everybody gets rain friday, then clear out, cool off for the weekend, but not freeze warning cool as we get toward saturday and sunday. rain chances morning commute, friday the best for bay area rain, clearing for saturday and sunday. >> than

january 2nd, just shy of 7:30 as we take a live outside and a ferry glow of the sun rising, and stormrangering a break ahead of the rain that is supposed to come our way. thank you so much for starting your sunday with us. i am kira klapper. meteorologist, rob mayeda, is in for vianey and tells us it's cold out there. >> yeah, if we were up near stormranger, we would have to scrape the windshield. this morning we have 28 degrees in livermore, and we are seeing 20s around the north bay and areas south of san josÉ down into san martin. those areas under a freeze warning in effect until 9:00 this morning, tri-valley, interior and the east bay and north bay. a nice recovery in the 50s after the mornings lows, and north bay and inland east bay in the upper 40s to near 50. one thing we will see is increasing clouds ahead of the rain chances coming back for monday. we will give you that hour-by-hour forecast coming up in about 15 minutes. >>> it's near freezing across the bay area, lots of people bundled up outside. today's marianne favro is in san josÉ. >> reporter: because of the bitter cold, sa

as we track stormranger we continue to see light showers over the east, the peninsula and san franciscoday we will still have a chance of the showers moving through, but we will see a lot less activity go into this evening, i think by 5:00, 6:00, we are not seeing a whole lot of rain here before it comes back early tomorrow morning. we are still looking at some wet weather. how is that affecting the roads and the bart delays right now, mike? >> kari, we have wet roads so i'm telling people to slow it down where you encounter the slick conditions, and that's one factor, and bart has a track side fire. the roadway shows green sensors, and more cars hitting the road and a little slowing at the altamont pass and no backup at the bay bridge toll plaza, and now we are hearing there are no trains servicing richmond to el cerrito del norte. they are turning back at berkeley because of the track side fire, and once they address that they can get the trains running once again. the area that is affected on bart is the area with the arrows, the freeway is fine. back to you. >> thank you. >>> dub na

stormranger picking up on a few isolated showers. not everything you've seen here is reaching the ocean and ground but a few returns off the santa cruz mountains and few more off the west of san francisco. kind of an interesting view, even the high pressure is preventing storms from reaching us, undercutting part of the upper low off the coast of southern california, and you see the clouds drifting it from the south. we had this morning a few sprinkles and looked like round two comes tomorrow morning. notice cloudy skies and at the time a few hit-and-miss sprinkles moving through with mostly cloudy conditions through the day and mild temperatures ongoing for your monday and really not much change. storms for the most part due to high pressure and misses through the north. it's interesting if you look closely, you see how the central valley sets up combined with the offshore breeze in places like concord, livermore and napa, patchy fog could be setting up for the morning. and san jose could be seeing the low to mid-60s for highs. so n

stormranger showing the activity there once again some very light rain moved through this morning but was very beneficial with some spots getting 0.3 to about a quarter inch of rain. as we widen out the view, still a lot more activity going on. some of the heavier rain targeting the pacific northwest and far northern california as we're just getting the edge of that with some lighter showers moving through. and now we're starting to see some of the breaks in the clouds as we take a live look outside in san jose. we will continue to have a day where we do get some peeks of sunshine but it looks like the rain is going to continue to taper off for us for much of the afternoon. but we do have some more rain in the forecast and we'll continue to see scattered showers moving in. especially for early tomorrow morning. that chance of rain means you just need to keep the umbrella close by. mainly in the north bay is where we'll see some of those higher rainfall totals and then we'll see some more widespread rain coming back into the bay area on friday. so we're going to talk more about that an
