tracie strahan is in newark. tracie, obviously, lots of concern and anxiety on the parts of the guardians and parents over this testing. >> reporter: even with that, michael, the testing is voluntary. they are expecting a large turnout. it's going to start with a couple of thousand toddlers at early childhood centers. as many as 17,000 newark public school students could be at risk. 30 locations have tested positive so far for lead exposure. school officials say there have been elevated levels of lead in the district's water since about 2012. today we are expecting also the results of water quality tests from newark public schools. at a meeting last night that you heard a little bit there, concerned parents rallied for new infrastructure. they say piping needs to be fixed in the schools, as well as install water filters. of course, there's concern about the affects lead has on young students because it can severely affect their development. take a long time to show up. officials haven't gotten an estimate as to w

"today in new york's" tracie strahan is in uptown. it's been a big political debate about what happen when you increase the minimum wage. >> reporter: absolutely, we've heard about it for months now. those buses are here, people starting to arrive here on 43rd street. they're arguing they're going to albany because they can't feed they have to rely on public assistance despite having a job. the push to raise that minimum wage to $15 an hour is gaining traction. it has support from governor cuomo. he's made this the center piece of his fight for fairness campaign. the union that represented 200,000 home care and health care workers will head to albany today say they currently make around $10 an hour morning half are forced to rely on public assistance including food stamps. at today's rally they're encouraging lawmakers to not only increase the minimum wage but to do so by the end of the month, saying time is of the essence. michael, there are 200,000 people part of this union. thousands are expected in albany in just a few hours. back
