it's the latest suffolk poll that shows the former massachusetts governor carrying 41% support in the state. ron paul has 18%. coming off a strong finish in iowa, rick santorum is up two points, still with just 8% support. behind him, newt gingrich and jon huntsman, the man who spent all his resources inside new hampshire, still down there at 7%. huntsman getting a bit of a boost heading into the weekend. the newspaper "the boston globe globe" is putting its support behind the utah governor saying he offers the republican party a chance to "renew itself." while romney proceeds cautiously, strategically to appease enough constituencies to get himself the nomination, huntsman has been bold. he articulates goals and ideas. that from "the boston globe." after dedicating his campaign efforts exclusively to new hampshire, the endorsement comes at the right time for huntsman who says he will likely drop out of the race if he can't place in the top three in the state. mitt romney spent the day yesterday focusing on the negotiation contest on the republican primary calendar, south carolina. ro

if you look at the suffolk university daily tracking poll, which has been coming out showing, you knowcally the way this campaign has been shaping up in the last several days, mitt romney over the last week or so has dropped by 8 percentage points, he has a 15 percentage point lead over ron paul. that may sound like a great deal to a lot of people out there, but not as big as it was a few days ago. i don't think there is enough time to catch up with him, but they're looking at that number and perhaps some of their own numbers and getting a tad worried heading into south carolina after new hampshire. >> so, paul, in manchester, is this what happens when you're out in front, the other contenders nip at your heels, trying to chip away at your character or of your resume? is that simply what is happening here with mitt romney out in front? >> it is business as usual. we saw with rick perry jumping into the race and became the front-runner the texas governor was attacked by a lot the other campaigns and other debates brought him down. same thing with herman cain, brought him down as well. a
