sullivan: two things about that. first, the earliest evacuation flights in any evacuation tend not to have every seat filled, because the process of getting any evacuation underway has a throughput issue. we believe that is being resolved with each successive flight and we will be putting 300 passengers on your average military cargo plane heading out of the country, one out of the other, hot on loading and offloading. second, by and large, we have found people have been able to get to the airport. in fact, large numbers of people have been able to get to the airport and present themselves. there have been instances where we have received reports of people being turned away or pushed back or even beaten. we are taking that up in a channel with the taliban to try to resolve those issues. we are concerned about whether that will continue to unfold in the coming days. as things stand right now, what we are finding is that we are getting people through the gate, we are getting them lined up, getting them on planes, but t

sullivan: can you repeat the question? >> what is the status of the afghan security forces and the u.s. relationship with them? mr. sullivan: the afghan security forces appear to have essentially, you know, no longer operate as a coherent entity. they essentially have given way to taliban physical security control over the major population centers. yes. >> a question on -- respect the rights of afghan women. what tools does the u.s. have to hold them to this pledge? and if not, what does the u.s. plan to do? mr. sullivan: so standing here today, i am not going to go into the full panoply of things we can do, but there are obviously issues related to sanctions, to marshaling international condemnation and isolation, and other steps as well, but the reason i don't want to go into great detail on it is i want to be able to have our team indicate directly to the taliban -- team communicate directly to the taliban what the costs and disincentives are for certain types of action and what our conversations are. that is a conversa

senator you just heard my conversation with national security advisor jake sullivan. your reaction?ven months the afghans have lost more people fighting and we have over 20 years. they had taken 65000 casualties, we have taken roughly 2020 years. the last year and a half we have lost no one. and continuing to plummet 2500 people in effect we were keeping the lid on and keeping terrace from reconstituting and having a light footprint in the country. the policy was working. therefore i think calling it the endless war or claiming somehow we're trying to get involved in a civil war and domestic civil war is simply not accurate. we went over there to protect us here at home we have had not had a mash mass casualty attack in 20 years. i call that a successful policy. now over the next two days the military is doing the best they can with a horrible policy decision. this is one of the worst form policy decisions in history. much worse than saigon there were not vietnamese terrorist attacking us at home. then we leave behind exactly what we went in to solve 20 years ago. and i fear for the
