once the war is over, today's the anniversary of the firing on fort sumter, everybody has different ideas about what the nation is supposed to become. we have gone through that with the idea that african-american men who had fought for the union had some ideas of what america should be, and certainly white southerners had in idea about what america should be. the northerners who won had an idea of what america should be. the indians and the chinese at -- out west had ideas about what america should be and certainly the northern men who had won the war had ideas about what the country should be. the critical question as to what it was going to be was who was going to have a say in it. we have gone to that as well, but who had a say in what that new nation was going to be was going to have a dramatic affect on what it eventually became. today i want to talk about women and women's lives in the late 19th century and their role in what was really the reconstruction, the true rebuilding of the north, south, and the west into a new nation in the wake of the civil war. the story of women is more

let's start out in sumter county where the president delivers remarks at the maga rally in the villagesresident trump is now polling below joe biden, biden leading by two points in this state. why is this a key stop for the president today? good morning. >> good morning. nice to be here. well look, florida is a really interesting state. if you talk to experts and you'll see this as soon as you go to the touch screen. it is really five states where you have the panhandle in the north, miami in the south, you have the gold coast and you have the central area as well as the west. and republicans and democrats do well across those different -- five different states as you can call them. the villages is interesting actually. close to trump's home. it is near west palm but the surrounding counties produce republican votes. not surprising the president will go there trying to get his supporters to the polls early and erase some of the early voting lead the democrats have been accumulating in florida. >> sandra: sumter county he handily won in 2016. 70% of the vote there. you talk about the pan

pinellas and sumter counties go primarily for the gop.he lead is shrinking, the data tells us now. a florida pollster says what do you do if you've lost a good friend or spouse to covid or locked in your house for six months? biden doesn't need them all to go one way, you just need 10% to switch and that's the election. meaning 10% of the seniors they switch and it will be very tough for the president to come back. >> that's why turnout in the key. microtargeting to the block where the people are. motivating and assisting voters to get to the polls. understanding where the polling is. and then monitoring the polling. making sure there are enough machines, that people are showing up. republicans want people to show up in person, not respond to unsolicited mail ballots. if they haven't asked for a ballot they need to go and go early and vote in person. >> trace: 10 seconds to end this up for us, mo. >> i think that's right. look, nearly half of registered voters in the state have already voted and right now there are more democratic ballots

the trick is not that biden is going to win counties like sumter, it is can biden trim away the lead there in 2016? not is he going to wincan he reduce the marginst biden gets? that is where the trick in florida is. can you hold down the margins of victory for your opponent in areas where they are strong, and maybe in wisconsin and those rural excerpts, instead of it being 80-20 trump, you can keep it to 70-30 or 60-40. that will help biden. the same in florida. does biden extend the lead hillary clinton had? can he rack up more votes in orange county and broward county and miami county, or does trump expand on some of the margins he had in some of those rural counties and keep it of -- keep it up above the margin? host: what tactics are the campaigns using to get the desired outcome for them? guest: a couple things. obviously showing up and coming to these areas is great because it energizes the base and gets folks excited. it gives them that extra little juice to make that phone call or knock on that door to try and get a voter to show up. your previous guest discussed it is not ch
