how do we turn back this tide that is so frightening there in the sun belt? >> yeah, so it's multifactorial. it's a combination of facial covering, physical distancing, keeping hands washed and cleaned, avoiding large crowds. the spread in the virus is propagated in florida because of the opening of bars and restaurants and the lack of compliance. governors are taking action, scaling back, shutting down bars and restaurants temporarily. they shut down the beaches to try to mitigate the transmission of the virus. you have to remember, there's a potential mutation in the virus which makes it up to 10 times more trans miss i'll. perhaps -- transmissable, perhaps the states are seeing an increase in the number of cases because of the potential mutation as well, not just the lack of compliance. we need to get on target and make sure we encourage everyone if you are unable to social distance, cover your face because that's how this virus spreads from one person to another by aerosolizing the virus. we have the knowledge. we have to adhere to it. molly: dr. nesheiwa

we have been following a number of states that have seen a spike in cases along the sun belt.f you could give us inside to start the conversation about what you're seeing in texas, more specifically in houston. >> yesterday was texas' deadliest day of the pandemic, over 100 people died. and i've seen reports that refrigerated trucks are coming into texas to be able to handle bodies because there are not enough spaces in the morgues. this is something that i experienced one other time, back when i was in medical school, 2001, during 9/11. i actually went to medical school in new york and from my 14th floor i could see onto the office of the chief medical examiner and i could see rows of refrigerated trucks, a white tarp that carried the bodies of the people that were killed in the collapse of the twin towers. but just to put it in perspective, more people have died in texas from covid than those who died during the 9/11 attacks. molly: it's something particularly scary because we're hardly close to the end of this at all. and now we're seeing this new research, so this is the n

whatever happened in florida happened across the sun belt. all of the findings are mirrored. if you remember in march and april, we were talking about the new york metro followed by boston, philadelphia, then chicago. new orleans was with the new york metro. it was a series of individual curves. in this case, whatever occurred occurred simultaneously across the south. we are investigating that closely to see the ideology behind that because it can help us as an early warning signal and help give guidance to the people of what we are asking them to do. next slide. texas is in a similar situation with their blue line. we are watching this closely across texas. next slide. all of you know there is a series of major metros in texas with significant increase in cases from houston to dallas to antonio the el paso. the governors get this type of report with specific recommendations and finally, california -- next slide. stabilityong time of but then an increase in the number of test positives and ripened increase in tested -- rapid increase in testing. next slide. we see this throug
