and more wind and rain on sunda . ., ,, i.henomenon known as a "sting jet". 0ur weather presenter chris fawkes is here to explain what's happening. well storm eowyn was and still an exceptionally ding rows system. ly dangerous system. the full—scale of it has worked into the coast. the strong test wind was in the republic of ireland. the strongest wind gust recorded there. in kil0wen the gust here was 90mph, the strongest for over a quarter of a century. what has caused this is a phenomenon called a sting jet. here is storm eowyn, this conveyor belt of moisture rising up, produced this area of cloud and rain. now some of the rain in this cloud tip here started to fall into some exceptionamly dry air, five kilometres up and that caused the rain to evaporate. that cools the atmosphere, makes the air dense and that air rushes down. this is known as the sting jet and brought the 140mph gusts to west of ireland. after the 140 was recorded, the sensor that recorded that went off line. we don't know what happened to it. we have seen

this happened on sunda afternoon. police say he drove into the crowd, closed off area while trying to evade them. now earlier, the driver hit a parked car, drove the wrong way on market street. unbelievably, no one was hurt. none of the displays were damaged. now, officers did not initially pursue the driver because they were concerned about safety, obviously, but they did catch up with him a little bit later and they tk him into custody. okay. talk about epic. a santa cruz man may be riding into the history books for taking on what could be the world's largest wave ever surfed. let me show it to you. you see that tiny figure there? that's 23 year old arlo sliver catching this mavericks wave on december 23rd near half moon bay. massive wave estimated to be 108ft tall, almost the height of an 11 story building. now the current world record for the largest wave ever surfed is 86ft. still too early to know if arlo truly broke the record, because the height of the wave needs to be analyzed and officiated. but the maverick
