over 8,000 films are submitted every year to sundance. then there's kind of another tier the festival doesn't like to talk about too much but ends up making up a lot of films in the festival, people who know people, connected with other projects going on with sundance outside of the festival itself who have the right agent, right person. those have a little bit of influence going into it but it's a mixture, 80% somebody who knew somebody and 20% things that just came over the transom. >> connections with people who came over the transom but what about the time? why do people jockey for screen dates? >> it's a jockeying to get in early. almost all the action really happens in the first four or five days. by tuesday the city starts emptying out essentially. you can go in main street in park city, unwalkable and then all of a sudden you can eat in any restaurant you want. it changes completely. if you are not there the first three or four days you're likely not to be a sold movie coming to sundance. >> what are some of the films we all know
