we also have our legal analyst sunny hostin standing by.'re talking about juvenile court, and i guess perhaps the question down the road will be if this young man is charged as an adult. for now he's in juvenile court. is it not strange that they're allowing a camera in the courtroom? >> it depends on the state you're in. ohio, as a matter of law, requires a judge to agree to have cameras at a public proceeding, and that includes juvenile proceedings, brooke, so in ohio, this isn't odd at all. they do have a victim witness opt-out, which means during a trial, a victim or witness can say they do not want to be photographed, they do not want to be taped, and they can opt out. but other than that, these proceedings are public in ohio, and so you will have cameras in the courtroom. >> what is -- i don't know if this is a correct word to use -- the advantage if a judge rules, yes, let's have a camera inside this courthouse. this is obviously a huge, huge case inside this small, tight-knit community. why agree to this? >> the judge doesn't really

sunny hostin is on the case.'s next. >>> a missouri mother is in jail under a $200,000 bond for allegedly slashing her own mother's throat. we're talking about brady simpson and her 11-month-old daughter. police found her on the ground holding her bleeding baby. she also had a cut to her own neck. add to this an odd encounter this church pastor had with her and her baby just a couple months ago. >> she came running in yelling, take my baby, take my baby. i just kind of stood up and stepped here and she more or less just tossed her baby in my arms and said, tie me down, tie me up. possession, possession. she kind of hit her chest a couple times and said, i'm possessed. i'm demon possessed. about that time, she put her hand over her mouth and she wouldn't say anything else. >> sunny hostin is on the case brchcase. before we get to the pastor, what kind of charges is she face sng. >> she is being charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in this terrible tragedy. now, what we know is what you just

sunny hostin is on the case, as always, with us. sunny, set us up.ct to see in court this week there? >> well, the judge here has not released the witness list, so we don't know exactly which witnesses, brooke, will be coming, but if it's any indication of what we've seen before, i think what is missing so far is really the testimony from the medical examiner. because we heard evidence of motive, brooke, we've heard about e-mail exchanges in which george huguely allegedly said, i should have killed you. we heard from some crime scene detectives, and the jury has seen some photographs of the crime scene. and so what really is at issue at this point is the cause of death, and that typically comes in with the medical examiner. we know that the prosecution in this case says that the cause of death was blunt head trauma, blunt force trauma, but the defense says not so. the defense says, brooke, that this is just an accident and that she may have died from positional asphyxiation, meaning she just laid on her bed and perhaps suffocated on her pillow. or th

sunny hostin, on the case., this has to be a shocker to bob's rotary club, this was a successful couple, two kids. what in the world is going on? >> news has been breaking on this case hour to hour. what we now know is that bob is a person of interest, not a suspect, just a person of interest. but now we hear that joe gentz, who apparently was a handyman for some of his numerous properties, commercial and residential, he has come forward and he has claim that had bob has paid him $2,000 to kill his wife. he claims that he killed jane in their home and then apparently drove her in her car and dumped her car where it was found in detroit. however, police are saying he has given some conflicting stories and of course bob maintains his innocence. he has denied the murder for hire plot. but bob's attorney has admitted that indeed he is the owner and operator of an s and m club that is in the basement of a bar that he owns. and that he frequently had parties there. >> before we get to that, which is very interesting,

sunny hostin on the case. i know, i hear your -- i'm thinking the same thing.that note, let's talk about the insanity defense. what is the defense trying to prove? >> well, in this case, brooke, in georgia, they've got to prove that, bottom line, he didn't really understand the difference between right and wrong, that he was operating under this mental disease or defect, that he just couldn't tell what he was doing at the time that he committed this crime was wrong. it's a really difficult defense to prove, and we've talked about this, brooke, right? it's probably one of the most, if not the most, controversial defense strategies in our system, and it's rarely, rarely successful. but they've told us from the very beginning that this is what they intend to prove, and we heard about that defense in opening statements today. >> i want to play a little bit of the sound. this is what the victim's widow said when the prosecution asked her about neuman's alleged visions. >> did the defendant ever tell you that he saw or talked to a demon? >> no. >> did the defendant e

sunny hostin is joining me. what do you make of these developments?a chilling and kind of makes your arm hairs stand up when you see that picture of him at the bank going right before he killed those children. >> that's right. there's no question that we're learning so much more about this case and that the investigation is ongoing. i think, you know, the pictures of him at the bank and what he did, this was a plan in motion, but, you know, taking it out of context, i don't think authorities would have known that he planned to not only kill himself but kill his children, but there were so many system failures i think when you think about what's happening in this case and what has happened in this case, erin, bottom line is from tragedy i've always believed that when you look at what happened, you look at the facts, you look at the protocol, you can review and refine and reform but there's no question in this case mistakes were made and hopefully reform will be the result of this. >> what about the judge who oversaw the custody agreement. the judge did

. >> our cnn legal contributor and former federal prosecutor sunny hostin joins us live now. ny, so many people are talking about the horrors involved with this story. then there's that major question on everyone's mind, how is it possible that there was a court-ordered visit, supervised or not, with the man who clearly had the potential to do something this vial? >> well, i don't think it was that clear to the court, ashleigh. it's very difficult to prevent visitation from a biological father without proof that he's been abusing the children or without proof that there is some sort of mental health issue. that just was not evidence before the court. so clearly there was visitation but it was supervised visitation. some concern on behalf of the court but legally, it appears to me that everything was done appropriate in this case. >> i know there is so much grieving and mourn that still lies ahead. but down the road, i'm wondering what sort of legal options this family might have and, also, with regard to these 911 calls, whether they provide some evidence to perhaps bolster an

sunny hostin. let me set this up.honeymoon murder case is perhaps how people know it. this man gabe watson is accused of killing his wife during their honeymoon at the great barrier reef back if 2003. so, this case has been in alabama. and according to our affiliate wbma, the case has been dismissed. tell me more as far as what you know and also, it's important to use the word dismissed and not acquitted because why? >> reporter: that's right. and this is quite remarkable. at the end of every criminal case after the prosecution has put in its evidence, defense attorneys often ask for ar acquittal. or a rather a dismissal of the charges based on the fact that there isn't enough evidence to proceed. well, it's a routine, routine motion that is made in this case, brooke, the judge agreed. and dismissed all of the charges against gabe watson. i want to say this is really, really extraordinaire. while it's a routine motion that's made, it does not get granted very often. so the defense never put forth any whiteitnesses. th
