unfortunately we have big problems developing now in sunnyvale. we're talking about a jackknifed big rig right there approaching the lawrence expressway exit in the southbound lanes of 101. now, three lanes are blocked in the southbound direction. no reports of any injuries with this jackknifed rig or what exactly the truck was carrying but we know that traffic is just squeezing by right now partially in that left lane and the center divide. also the on-ramp, the lawrence expressway on-ramp to southbound 101 is completely blocked. 280 is the best alternate in the area. not big backups now but if this continues to be out there for a while which it sounds like it could, chp just issued a traffic alert for that stretch, they will just said that they are hoping to get lanes 30 to 40 minutes after the tow crew arrives arrives son scene. we are waiting for word for when the crew arrives and then it could be 40 minutes from then so this is going to be an issue for the start of the morning commute for sure. so 280 a good alternate in the meantime. elsewhe

officers trail, peregoy, and obot were in the trip same vehicle as they reached the 1700 block of sunnyvale ave. they were flagged down by a citizen who stated, they are shooting up there right now. as they pointed west on sunday dale avenue, instantly, the officers looked west and saw the suspect armed with an uzi-type assault weapon on the 1800 block. the officers saw the suspect had the weapon in both hands and was firing in the direction of a crowd of people. as the suspect fire the weapon, numerous people began running in various directions. officers could hear the shots being fired and could see smoke coming from the weapon. the suspect fired at least -- approximate three to four shots and then fired in the air. officer trail broadcast over the radio shots fired and a suspect description as numerous units responded. officers pulled up to the suspect, at which point the suspect notice the officers, and while fully armed, began running from the officers westbound on sunday dale avenue. officer obot pursue the suspect on foot while officers peregoy and trailed initially pursued from thei

it's causing havoc for the commute on highway 237 in sunnyvale. at one point this afternoon, 237 was closed in both directions for more than two hours. as of this hour, though, many lanes remain closed. there are a couple lane that are open. it was a fatal accident involving a big rig truck. the driver died after his truck burst into flames. it happened a little after 2:00 this afternoon. people in the area reported hearing a loud explosion and then seeing a pillar of smoke. nbc bay area's kris sanchez joining us from the scene. how many cars were involved, and why is it taking so long to clear the scene? >> reporter: right now it looks like there was only the one big rig involved in the crash. the reason for the sdla because this is a complicated situation. when the driver was going eastbound on 237 and lost control, hit the center divide, part of the vehicle was evecjec into the other lanes of traffic. you're talking about affecting both lanes of traffic, eastbound and westbound. the good news is if you look behind me, you see the traffic is flo
