they followed the suspect vehicle into the city of sunnyvale. they pulled it over at el camino near wolfe. one of the officers exited his vehicle and approached the suspect. investigators say that's when the mercedes sped toward the officer and the officer made the decision to fire his weapon. >> during the attempt to stop the vehicle, the vehicle drove toward the officer at a high rate of speed. the officer feared for his life and fired several shots at the vehicle northbounded on wolfe road. the officer was not injured. >> reporter: another officer who was also on the scene in a marked patrol vehicle chased the mercedes northbound on wolfe road but lost the vehicle. the sunnyvale department of public safety is heading up this investigation. they are unsure how many people were in the mercedes and are working to see if they have a license plate number for that car. detectives are looking to see if any surveillance video exists. the officer involved in this shooting is on paid administrative leave which is standard in these types of situations.
