he's accused in the sexual assault of a 7-year-old girl in sunnyvale. kris sanchez joins us now with what happened in court and what led investigators to him decades after this alleged crime. kris? >> reporter: hi, marcus. the suspect did not have to appear in court today as the judge set that next date for november 28th. so pushing it out, the suspect waived his right to appear in person. this is jeffrey martinez. he is now in custody awatting trial, also charges of sexual assault of a 7-year-old little girl. it took 27 years for clues to lead to his arrest, and it happened because of a public genealogy database. the department of public safety investigators arrested martinez back in july, and since then, at least two more victims have come forward. when i was in the courtroom, his niece told me she and other families were there not to show support for martinez but to show support for his alleged victims. he is charged with six felonies including a v-8ed sexual assault and four counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14. there c

the past was first discovered last week in the cities of santa clara and sunnyvale, prompting a quarantine covering 112 square miles. now a large part of contra costa county is now under quarantine after officials discovered an infestation near brentwood and oakley. our john ramos has been checking it out and has more on what needs to be done to protect the food supply and how it could have serious consequences for the people who grow our crops. >> reporter: almost all the fruit has been picked in brentwood and contra costa county and no one really knows how long the quarantine may last or what it may mean for them, but officials seem fairly alarmed by what they have seen so far. it was two weeks ago that ag officials first found an oriental fruit fly in a trap in a brentwood neighborhood. >> we did not see anything else, so we were doing pretty good and did not find them. then we found a whole bunch more flies. so that got us quite worried. >> reporter: so now the state has imposed a quarantine area of 200 square miles in contra costa county and santa clara counties . the problem for bren
