this is one of those accidents that we have been following northbound 680 near sunol. a big rig ran off the road around about 100 feet down the embankment. so there are injuries and emergency crews were on scene. it's now all cleared to the right shoulder, no lanes blocked. some slowing in both directions of northbound and southbound 680 near the sunol exit. also grab your chains towards the sierra. rain showers here means snow up there. you can see a little snow on the ground, maybe a big rig on the right shoulder. highway 50 at meyers. so the chain requirements are in effect right now between twin bridges and meyers. they are only for highway 50 and 88. they are not in effect for interstate 80 yet. but, of course, that could change at any time. so we'll have more traffic coming up. back to you. >>> a big rig wreck has closed the southern california freeway indefinitely. it is highway 60 in montebello. no one was hurt when the big rig crashed and exploded into flames around noon yesterday. but the road cannot be used. crews are working to demolish a bridge that was ba

this mornings drive on 680 southbound on the sunol grade looks much better than it did yesterday. 4:30 let's go back to pam. >>> in overnight news san jose police are investigating an officer involved shooting. one man is dead. ktvu paul chambers joins us from san jose with what led up to the shooting. good morning, paul. >> reporter: i can tell you we have very little information about this. san jose police did release a press release saying it happened in this area here. investigators say about 11:30 last night several officers tried to contact an adult man. that's when the man displayed threatening behavior. one officer shot the man in what they say was self-defense. the man was taken to the hospital where he died just after midnight. we have very little information about this. i will tell you one thing. it's an interesting incident. when you come out here where a shooting happened, there would be police out here and crime scene tape. i have not seen nothing. we even talked to two neighbors in this area. said he was sitting outside at that time and heard nothing. this is a very inte

at the end of november, our contractor at sunol valley water treatment plant was able to complete thect, and i wanted to mention that because the timely completion was required to bring back the plan to its full capacity prior to the hetch hetchy shutdown that began on december 5. that required a lot of hard work from our contractor and operations staff, so they are to be commended. the other good news is that last friday, we reached substantial completion on bay division pipeline 5. considering the number of challenges that were associated with installing a pipeline in an urban area like that, we are very glad to have that project behind us and only have minor restoration work left to do. wanted to touch on one of our biggest pre-construction challenges at this point, and it has to do with the procurement of a large, customized slip joint needed for the crossing of the hayward fault. this is a one-of-a-kind item, and only one manufacturer showed interest in fabricating that unit for us. we have been negotiating with them on the terms and conditions of that unit for about a year now.
