i had a conversation with governor chris sununu of new hampshire towards the end of the year.re is that kind of discussion going on among republicans. >> one of the ways he could still win the nomination is one of the ways he won in 2016, which is there is a huge field of candidates, and they segment or fragment the voters, and then he takes the nomination. >> with 35%. >> he could even do less than 35%. is there any conversation that is going on, should go on to say, in order to stop donald trump, we need to not all jump in. we need to pick somebody, the best candidate and run that way? >> no, not -- i think a lot of us are looking at governors that may run. i think as governors, we all want to see a governor run and be successful. >> should it? should that happen? >> no, because it's up to the voters. >> but he also said that it is incumbent upon people who do end up getting in -- he would not say he was one of them -- but to say, if we're not catching fire, we're out. we're not just going to stay in. >> that's a fair point. in the 2016 primary we saw people lingering 2%, 3%

but i do that i that what governor sununu said was notable because it puts more pressure on the house speaker, kevin mccarthy, to step in here. and sununu set he doesn't know what mccarthy could do other than call on him to resign and don't know what he would gain politically but he thought that mccarthy should do that. >> it is interesting, sunland -- because santos got committee assignments and the leadership is saying but they were bad committee assignments. it is one of the really most unusual arguments i've heard coming out of washington. what are you hearing from republicans in the city about how long they think they're going to have to deal with this? >> well, it seems like there is just a drip, drip, drip of new lies seemingly every day. and the impact of those lies, as we saw with that emotional interview this morning with the veteran, that is coming out and prompting more questions about republican leadership action. but as long as kevin mccarthy has the narrowest of majorities in the house, and needs george santos's vote, i don't think you could expect to see much reaction.

neil: i had chris sununu on my show, the new hampshire governor, might be entertaining a run for presidentcertainly sounds like that he made a point this wouldn't happen to me. i wouldn't be just carelessly handling documents or wouldn't write a book need the documents or somehow taken them out and use them for those purposes. it is already become a campaign issue for candidates who are trying to make it such. what do you think? >> well, you know, i mean that is easy to say when you're not the president or the vice president of the united states and when you're going back, all of the information, i mean i just marveled at the amount of physical information, not just classified, but written that came across my desk every day when i was in the white house. it was mind-boggling. to go back when you want to write a book, something along those lines, you do need access to the notes, things you previously saw to make sure you're remembering things correctly. i don't, i don't, i don't question anyone that would need to go back in the course of writing their book or something along those lines to
