power has been by the way, improved since superstorm sandy, we're told.had some major power outages for weeks during superstorm sandy here on long island. and since then the power companies made extra efforts in the improvements of the infrastructure. there's a lot of people hoping that that does the trick for this storm as it passes through, anderson. >> anna, i think chad has questions as well. >> are you talking about burying 9 power lines, or shoring up the existing power lines? because from what i remember of montauk, and it's been a long long time ago, there's a lot of trees out there, and those tree limbs could take down power lines above the ground. kind of give us the lay of the land there. >> that is the big concern here. we heard that from governor andrew cuomo here. he said there's still a lot of the power lines and infrastructure supporting the power grid here. that is still above ground. and so while they've made improvements they haven't been perfect. he specifically did mention the many trees, and the tree limbs that could come crashing do

we saw that in hurricane superstorm sandy.t beach erosion leads to further difficulties down the line. how are you guys preparing for this? >> at this point we are working with local communities making sure that they have the shelters in place and they can reach out to individuals in the areas that are susceptible to coastal flooding and make sure that they are safe and get out of there in a timely manner but also we are concerned with statewide really as far as setting up shelters. many people are going to lose power and heat which really could be deadly this time of year. >> most people have most of their money invested in their home. i would like to ask you your thoughts on how do you protect that investment? i lived in minnesota and there are things you have to do and quickly. those pipes can be problem. >> we are having people take the right steps to make sure that those pipes are insulated and simple things like turning the spigot on to keeping the water running a little bit and the pipes will be less likely to freeze. i

this is an area that is still at its knees from superstorm sandy.ow worried are they that this storm could do all of this damage again? >> reporter: they are very worried, erin and you can see why. look at the way that the wind is hitting me here at asbury park. thundersnow, hurricane-force winds, we're getting a combination of that right now here in asbury park. yes, hurricane sandy, a little over two years ago, a lot of this area still not recovered yet from that and now they are getting hit from something like that again. we talked to the young ladies walking along the boardwalk. they are worried about that. a lot of this area is still recovering from sandy and they say they are going to band together again like they did just over two years ago and get through this. we mentioned the tides. i heard you talking to chad and some of the others about the tide come being in. the tide here now just after asbury park it's not at high tide yet but it will be at 1:00. that's what they are worried about. possible flooding in this area. these wind conditions

many people along the shore are still recovering and rebuilding from superstorm sandy.hey are having to deal with this storm. on the telephone is the major of bellmar. mayor, welcome. tell us what the situation is there tonight? >> we just spent the last 24, 36 hours preparing for this storm, and because of all of the lessons learned since sandy, we're really well prepared for this storm. >> what advice to you have for the residences in bellmar and those preparing for this storm? >> there is going to be some tidal surges some flooding in the back bay area but probably the biggest concern will be power outages. with high winds and taking down trees and limbs that are going to take down power lines. and for at least a day it is going to be difficult for any power company to fix those lines, so it will be a difficult period of time without any power that lends to no heat and temperatures are going to be dropping precipitously over the next 24 hours. >> some time has passed since sandy. do you feel like you have ptsd when it comes to a storm like this? >> we have some folks

we saw pout our for weeks -- power out for weeks after superstorm sandy in this area. that is something people are watching and waiting for to see exactly what happens. rosemary errol? >> reporter: we're watching wind gusts pick up in providence rhode island. you see a good example when you look down the street. you see the snow blowing in the wind. but keep in mind there are no cars on the road. that's a good thing. sfroishls told residents to stay off the road. there's a travel ban throughout the night. snowplows doing their best to clear the road. the snow is expected to fall faster than these plows can keep up with. the other big concern is along the coastline in the state of rhode island. there are many communities in low-lying areas. we know that the wind gusts will get from 60 to 70 miles per hour something that people will have to keep watch of especially as high tide sets in. the other thing that is important as the snow continues to fall people who could get stranded or trapped in homes, officials are asking neighbors check on neighbors. make sure they have t
