he may give more credence to someone married to an important supreme court justice in a lifetime commitmentertainly a conflict of interest, because as we know, many matters of the trump white house are coming before the supreme court for clarence thomas to vote on. i would also add that you don't even have to go to a spouse to question this sort of conflict of interest question that president trump has raised about the justices. remember brett kavanaugh's confirmation hearing? remember when he was going on and on about how the allegations of sexual assault and misconduct against him were a revenge plot by the clintons? i think there are certainly times in which justices have made really partisan remarks, and justice ginsburg apologized for her remarks. so i think it certainly raises questions about impartiality when you have the spouse, whether it's male or female, of the supreme court justice essentially giving hit lists to the president, knowing that he's more likely to pay attention to that based on who she is married to. >> irin, thank you so much. irin, c nrkn carmon, we appreci. >>> b

this thing is really unusual, jenna, to have a sitting supreme court justice, in open revolt against ration? >> yeah. and charles, president trump is absolutely right to call this inappropriate and question the bias of a supreme court justice that would insert a politically-motivated attack into a dissent of the court. so even though sotomayor couches this in a dissent that doesn't make it any less inappropriate and political for the non-political branch, the supreme court, to talk about an administration disfavorrably. so for context, always context matters. what is going on here, there is continued presidential harrassment, no matter what the executive branch does, no matter what the trump administration does, then someone is going to sue. there have been repeated lawsuits that have forum shopped. they tried to get judges on the district court level to issue nationwide injunctions to prevent executive branch from being able to carry out its constitutionally-mandated political powers. charles: right. >> then president trump's attorneys have to go to the supreme court and request thes

[ applause ] anniversaries and new years are always important opportunities to reflect on time gone by, and on progress made. we have another opportunity this evening, as we usher in not just new legislative session, but a new decade. sol so let us go back for a moment and remember where we've been. almost ten years ago to the day, we gathered in this chamber for the 2010 state of the state address. kansas found itself in the throws of the first economic downturn in 80 years. the great recession had necessitated $1 billion in spending cuts, another $400 million budget gap still loomed before us. it was brutal. it's probably best that we did not realize in that moment that that would be the bright ost fiscal outlook kansas would have for another seven years. of course you know what
