[applause] pres. trump: as a new justice on the supreme court, i understand the responsibility that i bear. some 30 years ago, standing here in the east room with president reagan, anthony kennedy took the oath to be a new justice of the supreme court. justice kennedy became one of the most consequential justices in american history. i served as justice kennedy's law clerk in 1993. to me, justice kennedy is a mentor, a friend, and a hero. on the supreme court, he was a model of collegiality. he fiercely defended the independence of the judiciary and jealously guarded the individual liberties secured by the constitution. justice kennedy established a legacy of liberty for ourselves and our posterity. i will always be humbled and proud

supreme court nominee whatever their politics to be a shining example of someone who tells the truth without doubt or equivocation if you say maybe he's telling the truth maybe he's not he doesn't belong on the supreme court. i think most americans say that. even if you want to discount at 18 and college or in high school you cannot discount what he says and professing at age 53. when it flies in the face of being truthful. that is the key question. demeanor he doesn't show the demeanor of a judge at the hearing. there was partisanship it was so unbecoming of a somebody on a district court, federal appeals court let alone a supreme court. and he did not show any semblance to be 100 percent honest and truthful which is what we need in aou supreme court justice. so if you feelas what happened at 18 doesn't matter but when he's 53 it does in his credibility to give doubt to to most americans to say this man does not belong on the supreme court there would be a whole lot of people who feel better. >> i've been in politics a long time i've ever seen
