surfers tried to take advantage of this yesterday. we have video from santa cruz and surfers lined up and how is this affecting the popular surf line? officials have said this is the first year it's taken over the contest as part of the big wave tour and monday and possibly today. now they're going to watch the conditions even though we're seeing big waves and holding out for more favorable conditions for surfers potentially later this week. thursday is a possibility but haven't made that call yet. they have to get in the contest before the end of february. back out here live, boy, see this churning up quite a bit. a lot of foam washing up on the sand, the waves crashing again and we have definitely seen an increase in the last 30 minutes or so in the size of some waves. couple of things to keep in mind and national weather service describing the waves at erratic and coastal erosion, possibility so be careful and never turn your back to an angry ocean. >> if you ever stood on the pier, those waves are coming up against the pier. >> it
