well, for that matter, we have to worry about moderate to high risk for rip currents on any of our surfside beaches because that southwest wind is kicking in. vortex satellite and radar. thunderstorms have faded away. there is a little bit of very light rain left. you even, look at this, when you see the radar picture losing the bright oranges and yellows, there is a light shower out there in certain spots from dutchess county into sussex county. i don't see that line pushing to the south. low pressure to the north. that's the culprit that gave us a couple of showers today. you had strong storms out there north of the city. i think the same thing could be said tomorrow because the low is not going too far away. it will be in the general vicinity. similar set-up for tomorrow. then luke at this channel of beautiful air. that's the wednesday i'm talking about. that's your pick of the week. and then behind it the spin that you see around salt lake city, this low pressure system is going to be to our area thursday and friday. it's going to give us another chance of rain the end of the week. i th

surfside, florida. >> big question, of course, what happens when erika hits land this weekend and what could it mean for rain in our area? howard, what do you got? >>> doesn't look like much hope for rain in our area. erika is going over haiti right now, the dominican republic, their mountains 5 to 6,000 feet. that will really disrupt the circulation. it has never been a well organized storm. in the hurricane center at 11:00 brings erika right over cuba and this could fall apart. they're downgrading it by saturday 8 p.m. to a tropical depression on the forecast, but it may be just a wave by then. if it does have anything left, it could be, this is a big if, a weak tropical storm by key west sunday at 8 p.m. right now winds at 45 and gusty winds with the squall over haiti and the dominican republic. we'll watch it, but the threat seems to be diminishing. i'll have the rest of our weekend forecast coming up in a few. >>> there's some new information tonight in the search for a convicted sex offender who walked away from a court ordered home visit in hyattsville yesterday. this was breaki

employees here at surfside are taking all the necessary precautions, clearing the pool decks and the beaches. tim milligan is surfside's director of parks and recreation. >> i've been watching erika since tuesday along with the town. we started to prepare at that time for a possible tropical storm or hurricane with our hurricane procedures and we're prepared at this time for any type of weather that comes through. >> reporter: residents are following suit. at a local supermarket shoppers stocked up on water and canned goods. over at the home depot, gerson was buying up boards to board up windows. some waited in line for gas. in miami-dade some were offering residents and businesses complimentary sandbags. erika continues its slow push toward west having hammered the dominican republic with heavy rain and 50-mile-an-hour winds. on the small island of dominica 15 inches of rain triggered flooding and mudslides. authorities there say at least 20 people have died as a result of erika. back in florida, governor rick scott has told residents they should continue to monitor the storm's path
