but it turns out many of those surveyed weren't necessarily married. let's take a look at the question. it says, have you ever even once broken up with a significant other over political differences. there's no mention of divorce and no mention of numbers -- remind you the latest data comes from before president trump was elected. first off is this graphic from the cdc showing divorce rates have actually been going down across the country over the last decade. according to the national center for family and marriage research, the current divorce rate is set at 1.7%, well below 10%. but some may be divorcing more, people 50 and older. divorce rates have more than doubled since the 1990s among this group but that jump between 1990 and 2015 was before president trump was even in office, so what can we verify? as to the claim that the divorce rate has jumped 10% since the election of donald trump, this is misleading because that survey was talking about relationships in general. as for whether the divorce rate has increased, we will wait for the numbers. >
