susan: you are a psychologist. what took you down the route of the data driven study of generations? jean: i am a gen x. in the early 90's, i was working on my college honors thesis. i noticed that my fellow undergrads were scoring very differently on psychology questionnaires man the 19 70's test manual said they should. this questionnaire had things about assertiveness, leadership. the women in particular looks completely different, it made me realize that actually makes sense, because the roles for women had changed a lot over that period that was my first study on generational differences. it also came at the same time that there was a lot of attention being paid to gen x. a lot of what was written was gases. they would maybe have some census and demographic data, but often make these bold assertions that gen x have low self-esteem. they would actually have the psychology questionnaires or other sources showing that. that was another project i did in graduate school, and it turns out that they actually expresse
