chief susan manheimer joins us for her very first media interview since her appointment. thank you so much for this opportunity to chat, chief. >> thank you. it's great to be with you. >> we do appreciate it. you have just retired, i mean four months ago. what motivated you to come out of retirement, say yes to this challenge, and e. that in san francisco, why did you say yes? >> exactly. you know, i really devoted my life to service. i just gravitate to and love this profession. i have known oakland and the pd for a really long time. and i really thought that i have always wanted to give back to the community and make a difference. and right now, to me, oakland pd is that exactly. to make a difference and to really have some impact on the community and the department. >> but did it not give you pause that oakland has had 11 chiefs in the past ten years? >> well, you know, there's an old saying, where there is great challenge, there's great opportunity. and i want to say that i have known a lot of those chiefs. i have known the department for a long time. each of them lai
