here's susan saulny with the details. >> reporter: men and women scattered afraid for their lives after gunfire broke out sunday evening at a controversial dallas area event. police their guns drawn, swarmed the chaotic scene. >> we heard boom boom boom then all of a sudden we see the cops everywhere. >> reporter: the american freedom defense initiative was holding a contest for cartoons featuring the prophet muhammad. as it was scheduled to end two men in a car arrived and started shooting. >> they drove up got out and opened fire on the security officer. >> reporter: after the security guard was hit garland police opened fire killing both gunmen who have yet to be identified. the fbi is assisting the investigation and is working vigorously to determine if this is some form of islamic radicalism or something else completely. >> the bodies are outside the car? >> yes. >> on the ground. >> yes, simply because we're not going to expose ourselves to a bomb that's event for several months and added security as a precaution. but they said they had no indication of this particular threat. aft

abc's susan saulny reports. >> reporter: the nfl superstar. four-time super bowl winning quarterback tom brady on his knees this morning, taking a big hit for his role in the deflategate controversy. a four-game suspension beginning next season without pay. but brady has no plans to stay down. his agent making it clear that the superstar quarterback will definitely appeal. the nfl told brady, your actions clearly constitute conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the game of professional football. the 243-page deflategate report released last week was damning, finding that it is more probable than not that tom brady was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities involving the release of air from patriots' game balls. back in january, just after the balls in question were used in the afc championship game against the indianapolis colts, brady denied guilt. >> i would never do anything to break the rules. >> he impeded the progress and the process of the investigation. this will be part of his legacy, as we
