next speaker, please. >> susan solomon again, uesf. i first want to say thank you for bringing forth the proposition g m.o.u. we did some good work last week, and let us all hope for the best that the bill that's in the state senate passes on thursday. this will change the landscape, and we won't have to worry as much as we're worrying right now. in terms of the budget, just in general terms as we go through the year and expenditures are happening, it's important to keep our eye on the prize, the priorities that are set in the budget are laudatory around multitiered systems of support, around professional department, safe and secure schools, and performance gaps. we also should note that the majority of the funds that are expended should be expended at the school sites, and that's where we want to see that happen. we want to make sure that we are student centered, and that is one way to make sure of that. and then in compensation of our members, which has been increasing due to some hard and excellent negotiations, it helps students if

i am susan solomon, president of the united educators of san francisco. delores huerta started her career as a teacher, and then, she went into union organizing. we think that's a pretty wonderful combination, and a very important piece of her life that should not be -- go unmentioned. she fought and still fights for the rights of working people to organize in a union. we still see her at union events, and as a previous speaker said, she still has the fire in her belly. she still can talk and -- walk the walk, talk the talk, so we ve very much appreciate that the board is considering renaming fairmont to delores huerta. i also want to say that i was remiss in not getting up to this microphone to not getting up to speak about ed lee and renaming a school for himself and his wife, anita. if it weren't for mayor lee -- we had teacher of the year under gavin newsom. we got parent educator of the year under mayor lee, and if not for mayor lee, we would not have educator housing being built on the old francis scott key site. i think this is a great night that w

. >> let's see...for public comment, we have susan solomon, alda finic -- >> sure. >> okay. aleta fisher, kevin bogis, ally kopp. >> first, i'm a member of the african american parent advisory committee, so i'm going to read some comments on behalf of the aapac. we are excited to see the work being done at m.l.k. was highlighted in the data tonight. however, when you look beyond the number, m.l.k. has built a culture in partnership with staff to address the racism and barriers that prevent our students from achieving. to highlight m.l.k., we must also address the unspoken issues that many of our students and families feel unsafe as they first enter the schools. the district's own data show that 25% of our students don't feel safe in their schools. in addressing the data around suspension, we would like to know what data has been collected around students being sent out of the classroom, voluntary home suspension when the parents are being asked to keep a student home, how many times have police been called to sites for students? how can we capture the entire picture of what'

susan solomon, uesf. this is a topic i'm looking forward to have the public forum on because when we as a union are in negotiation with the district, one of the things that becomes a difficult point at the bargaining table is why the reserves are typically higher than the mandated reserve because what we often see, unfortunately, is a crisis such as the affordability crisis and the housing crisis, and it makes us wonder when we're at the bargaining table what the money is being held in reserve for when it seems like an emergency. it sounds like that -- this topic is in contemplation of seeing crises coming up, and so since we -- just feels like we just finished negotiations, and it feels like they're practically around the corner, i look forward to having a deep discussion about what additionally these means in terms of salaries, wages and benefits for employees of the district and members tof uesf. thank you. >> thank you. comments from the board or superintendent? seeing none, roll call vote, please. >>

susan solomon. come on up. >> thank you. this is in relation to the policy for prior authorization to use personal belongings at school and reimbursement if they get lost or stolen. i just wanted to make sure that the board knows that there is a contract provision and both the search to vacated unclassified contract that says the following this is article 14.4.5 active certificate and 15.2.6 at classifieds. the district shall reimburse a teacher or a pair just a educator for damages or theft resulting from attack, assault of physical threats, robbery or vandalism when said damage or theft occurs in the line of duty , including supervision without fault of the teacher. it is possible that i am misreading the policy, but it seems to me that this policy will only provide reimbursement if the personal belonging is being directly used for instruction. the contract doesn't specify that it is a belonging that is being used for instruction. thank you. >> thank you. item two is board policy 3350. and play travel expenses and work pol
