the new governor of new mexico, susanna martinez is somebody who they're taking a close look at, too.ow there's also been some talk out there about bob mcdonald, as well. virginia's governor who has not made it a secret that he is pretty interested in the idea. >> that's right. virginia is another state that's going to be hotly contested. so, they have to look at the geography and you have to look at the democrats and rubio rides to the top and the other thing that you have to look at is the ideological constituency that a vp candidate might attract and might be able to help presidential candidate sort of offset a weakness with that constituency. with rubio, again, he's a tea party favorite. if mitt romney is the nominee, in particular, he's not strong with the tea party. he will want a vp candidate that is able to offset that deficiency and rubio will do that and susanna martinez in new mexico, as brian sandoval, the governor of nevada, who also is hispanic and is from a hotly contested state and has appeal with tea partiers. so, a lot of possibilities out there. the reason why we're

. >> susanna ashton, how did you select the narratives you included in your work? >> we were looking for out of print narrative. mayors which were not largely known at all for other reasons. and also narratives which might be no, but were not known as south carolinians. boston kings one the 18th 18th century slaves, he is known in british abolition circles. is been identified in transatlantic connections. but he was from south carolina and affected to british lunch in the american revolution. then went to canada, to nova scotia and into africa when he ended up his memoir. so including them as a south carolinians was a new way to conceive of his history. people like that. when a collection of seven people that were not well known or were known in other contexts. for the first time ever we could bring them back into print and put them together and see the connections between the moral coherent narrative of what the store in south drive slavery was like. >> what were the major themes included in the recollections. >> well, there were both small and big themes. there w

nikki haley, as susanna martine says and brian sandoval of course, nikki haley is the republican governorof south -- and also the governor of new mexico and your neighbor next door a republican in hispanic governor. in 2010 we have elected a new slate to get their stripes. and we will be ready 2016. i hope that they will come to it because of good disappointment even if we don't have a ronald reagan we have a chance to make a case with the inroads of this generation. >> i went to your grandfather's library i never realized what a wonderful man he was until i visited. but do you think that tea party may divide it the republican party as ross perot did in 1992? >> today is a particularly good day to ask that question because there are things that are happening right now in washington that could threaten that state. i genuinely hope not and hope the folks, it is remarkable to me that 87 republicans been i year to shift the direction the country is going in terms of spending. and i am a huge fan of the tea party because without them this would not have happened.
