welcome to "around the world," i'm suzanne malveaux. not the greatest news for the economy. the sky rocket growth we saw most of last year, no sign of it in the december jobs report that came out this morning. want to bring in alison kosik in new york to talk about it. alison, what happened? we were feeling so good about everything. >> reporter: you know what's interesting, some analysts believe it or not, suzanne, are blaming the weather which held back hiring, they say, or they blame the holidays for this lackluster showing. just 74,000 jobs added in december. this was really a big miss. because estimates are for 193,000 jobs have been added. this winds up being the weakest month since january of 2011. labor department says the weather is partially to blame. sectors like construction saw a drop in employment, and some analysts also saying this report is a fluke. and will most likely be revised higher when the next month's numbers come out. then you look at the unemployment rate. it dropped from 7% to 6.7%. >> right. >> but not for the right reasons. it's mostly because, su

i'm suzanne malveaux. bombs, death, religious fighting. we're all talking about iraq here again. it is spinning out of control. just today, at least 36 people died in a wave of explosions, car bomb after car bomb blew in and around baghdad, one after another. two of the bombs went off near a market that was full of people. also in the provinces outside baghdad, iraq's military is fighting against militants who are being helped now by al qaeda. dozens of people, mostly civilians, have died there since early december. parts of iraq today look more and more like they did during the most chaotic days of the war. my "around the world" co anchor and friend, michael holmes, is in baghdad now. we also want to talk to nicholas burns, former ambassador to nato, professor as well at harvard in cambridge, massachusetts. michael, i really want to start off with you here. you're on the ground, we've heard about these numerous explosions time and time again. where were you, where was the crew, how close were you? >> yeah. a couple of those bombs were not that far away from where we stand right

i'm suzanne malveaux. first up, new threats now adding fears to a possible terror attack on the olympic games, just two-and-a-half weeks away when an online video shows two men claiming to have been behind the recent suicide attacks that killed dozens of people in russia. you see it there. the men are warning of more bombings during those games. the threat comes as the olympic torch is passing through the city of volograd, which, of course, you might recognize that name. that is where the attacks happened. phil black has the details. >> reporter: mounting concerns in russia this morning, as the olympic torch relay makes its the way through the bomb-stricken city of volograd. two extremists in this video claiming responsibility for two back-to-back suicide bombings last month that claimed 34 lives. and warning that more attacks could come during the sochi olympic games. in the hour-long video, the purported suicide bombings are constructing explosives and ex training their motives. the two men apparently pa
