and, as suzanne pratt reports, forecasts for oil prices in 2010 are all over the map. >> reporter: at this gas station in midtown manhattan, gas prices are among the highest in the nation. whether they spike even higher, head lower, or stay in the same range this year depends on who you ask. j.p. morgan's lawrence eagles expects crude prices, which dictate gas prices, to climb higher. that's after averaging between $72 and $76 a barrel in the first half this year. >> moving higher in the second half, up to $88 by the end of the year and moving appreciably stronger in 2011. >> reporter: for eagles appreciably stronger means as high as $100 a barrel. his price predictions are based on a bullish outlook for t global economy. a healthier economy should fuel a pickup in oil demand. >> the one thing that is absolutely essential, which our forecast is very much focused on, is that we continue to have strong developing economy growth, strong demand from asia in particular, but also the middle east is going to be a stronger consumer. >> reporter: deutsche bank's paul sankey also expects strong

suzanne pratt, "nightly business report," new york. >> tom: still ahead on the program: what the next generation of doctors want from health care reform. >> lots of volatility today in the market but mostly stocks were down. >> yeah, they were down although we did pick ourselves up from the triple-digit loss earlier in the day. let's look at the market focus. transportation stocks helped pull the major indices back from the steep sell-off earlier in the day. down by more than 150 points. this exchange traded fund follows the dow transportation average saw leadership from railroad and trucking stocks. those stocks may have been helped by crude oil prices falling below $80 a barrel. that was helped by the dollar falling in price. and that dollar drop helped out gold prices, as it usually does. gold went out today just above $1,100 an ounce. the firmer gold price helped the stocks of gold miners, included in this gold miner exchange traded fund. gold stocks and gold prices have been trending lower since early december. newmont mining saw a hugh profit jump, easily beating estimates thank

suzanne pratt, "nightly business report", new york. >> tom: here are the stories in tonight's "n.b.r. newswheel". wall street overcame steep selling late in the day to close in positive territory. the dow gained ten points, the nasdaq rose 15.5, the s&p 500 added three. toyota's c.e.o. in japan breaks his silence, offering a heartfelt apology to toyota owners. akio toyoda, grandson of the company's founder, said the automaker will put together a group to study quality, and encourage managers in japan, the u.s., and europe to work together. call j.p. morgan's jamie dimon the $16 million man, that's his bonus for 2009. it breaks out to $8 million in restricted stock, about $8 million in options, but no cash. he's not the only one richer tonight. goldman sachs says c.e.o. lloyd blankfein will get a $9 million all stock bonus for last year. >> susie: still ahead, the super bowl is just 48 hours away, and it's the hottest ticket in town. an inside look at the business of buying and selling tickets. >> tom: it seemed a lot worse than it was this week for shareholders. yes, the markets touch
