i went by and saw deputy director sweeney hanging out to see if he could help. it plays well with our community that you are out there and talking during these difficult times. the director and deputy director, ed sweeney and also i was at this meeting, there were a few names here, met with supervisor jane (inaudible) on monday to discuss legislation that she is considering that amends supervisor david chiu's vacant building ordinance. it was a productive discussion and we look forward to working with the supervisor to finalize her proposal amendments with review and recommendations and that will come in front of us, to the code advisory committee and the bic eventually but just another good example how when everybody gets together problems get solved and can be a good outcome for amendments for legislation, particularly the board of supervisors. supervisor kim also worked with dbi housing inspection staff on new legislation addressing the additional department of hub health action steps to deal more effectively with the bedbugs infections which we read a lot ab

on september 11th, i joined acting director huey deputy sweeney and chief henchon as we sat with six top staff from the los angeles building department who visited san francisco to learn about our procedures and code enforcements and inspects and plan review we discussed earlier in the last item. * inspections at the recommendation of acting director huey, we will be establishing a new committee to recognize and award outstanding dbi employees on a quarterly or annual basis. an initial organizational session was held yesterday and i was there. vice president mar was there. i was pleased to be part of this new committee. other members include emilie morrison and jeffery mar and bill strawn. it was a good discussion and as i joke with bill in good fashion, we find issues we want to address first before we can agree on it. we'll have another meeting and the goal here is to have this program in place here starting next year and do it on a quarterly basis. i think it will be a very, very good policy to have in place to recognize all the -- particularly the people in the dbi family who are

we maintain a do not call working group and i've got marguerite sweeney many states pulled together so we are active with our national association of attorneys general. when it comes to robocalls, indiana as another unique experience. we have banned the use of auto- dialers since 1988 recognizing the growing opportunities for scams. we have even banned the political calls. that has engaged a number of legal challenges, as you might have guessed. it has been successful up through the courts and the supreme court of india and that successfully arguing that the rights to privacy trump a political free speech to blast out tens of thousands of calls to hoosiers. it is subject to a federal case we want at the district court that is now in the seventh circuit court of appeals. i think there is opportunities there that indiana and other states have shown to have stricter do not call and no boat rolled -- and no robocalling options. some of the current work will again be subject to additional challenges and we look forward to many more days in court.
