e tnami thrust the bow of a 2,300-ton "asia symphony" through a sea wall. the ship had been blocking a road near kmichi port. on thursday, workers maneuvered the barge with a crane up to a freighter, then atached 32 cables to the ship. it took about an hour to lift the "asia symphony back into the sea. >> translator: i hope removing the ship will spe up reconstruction work in kamaishi. >>> more than 25,000 small fishing boats nationwide were destroyed or swept away during the march tsunami. a leading japanese boat maker is now busy filling orders to replace the lost boats. yamaha motor is operating out of a makeshift factory in miyagi prefecture that until recently was an indoor tennis facility. 20 workers are customizing fishing boats to meet customer needs. the company plans to deliver 2,800 boats from now through next march. that's 11 times the number of boats it sold last year. to speed up production, the company will almost double the number of workers at the factory in november. >> translator: i was so pleased to see how happy the fishermen looked whe

i was taking myself so seriously because i had a chance to do a symphony orchestra. some of the greatest african and latin percussionists and all of the other people i brought on. i was standing with like 150 people. don't destroy my sound track. it was a muted -- musical comedy. for a black man to get that kind of responsibility was incredible to me. and did not want to cheapen my song by having you guys make a joke out of it. it would have been brilliant. and what would i have gotten paid. oh, man. tavis: you did the score for the film. i'm sure you have seen in countless times. what tune make of what they did? >> i think it is truly one of the greatest performances ever put together on the screen. arsenio does not get the crops. even when they are in the barbershop. semi is a great role. it wants to go to the waldorf- astoria when the king is going to punish them. and bathe him. gustav maller took up a baton with the orchestra to conduct his symphonies. the orchestra's relationship with japan dates back to 1956, the year austria gained full independence after world war ii. at the time, the orchestra members were surprised by the enthusiastic welcome they received from the japanese people. japan was just starting to recover from its wartime devastation. japan became the company's most frequently visited country outside of europe. the group used to choose prominent conductors for its tours through japan. ♪ the charismatic conductor was one of the most popular figures. while touring the country, the members gave performances at local schools and made friends with the local people. in 1993, the orchestra decided to make its japan tour an annual event. >> some of us married with japanese, have japanese children or relatives. some relatives living here in japan. therefore, we have strong connections. ♪ ♪. >> reporter: orchestra members say they will make a commitment to the vick of the disaster and those affected by the nuclear accident at

really most gratifying about realizing this project is we're going to be down the street from the symphonyl and opera house and ballet head quarters for an art form that's relatively new. a great, great thing to do. what we're going to do deferently is obviously honor the legacy of jazz. a lot more around education. going to be developing more and more things with our high school programs and middle school programs and have a chance to sort of develop younger musicians. of course we're going to be presenting tons of music. >> so, america still respects jazz. nobody believes it's really dead. they have been telling me that for 30 years or so. >> it's exciting. as i said earlier, it is an art form that has always regenerated and always been about growing. there's more -- what's different actually now. i was going to say there is more musicians than ever before. this formal training program, something that was very different from what jazz was 40, 50 years ago. so there's lots of young jazz payers learning differently than musicians did then. extraordinarily young talent out there, a lot of i
