it's too long and syracuse is your national champion. >> a few days after the karaoke night, the syracuse area celebrated the end of college basketball's march madness with a national championship. it had been a long time coming, and syracuse wanted its moment in the national spotlight. little did anyone know that the moment was about to be eclipsed by a different kind of madness. on april 8th, the day after the basketball victory, the odd couple from freddy's karaoke night was out running errands. while stopped at this bottle recycling center, the young girl slipped away and called her sister. "an old man is holding me against my will," she said. the sister in turn called police, who found the couple a few minutes later at this car dealership. as soon as the police pulled up, the 16-year-old leapt out of a rusty mercury comet, almost identical to the one jennifer spalding reported to detectives two years earlier. the girl told police the old man had kidnapped her, raped her and held her prisoner in a basement dungeon. the old guy looked harmless, but the police decided to arrest him anyw

it's going to be a major issue for syracuse to have to deal with. >> jeff, with the syracuse case, the d.a. can't prosecute fine because of statute of limitations, but what do they do, bobby davis and mark lang? should they bring about a civil lawsuit at this point. >> reporter: well, i can't claim to know every possible avenue, but i think they may be well out of luck if all they have is events that took place allegedly in new york state. they would have no option to bring a case in any other jurisdiction so they may have no criminal or civil remedy because of how much time has passed. >> even though the judge says he believes their stories, that they're credible? >> reporter: that's what statute of limitations is. it is a bar to bringing a case after a certain point even if you can prove your case. a statute of limitations, if it is applied strictly, as it usually is, is that after a certain date even valid claims are extinguished. now the theory behind it is everyone should have a certain period of time. it's just very hard to prove things after a number of years, and the theory of

no charges will be filed against a former syracuse assistant basketball coach. the man they call blago learns his fate today. >>> and a debate over plan b. >>> reporter roulette. i want to begin with ted rowlands in chicago. ted, we know rod blagojevich was sentenced to 14 years. he spoke a moment ago. what do you know? >> reporter: well, yeah, 14 years in federal prison for rod blagojevich. he was hoping for three to five. the judge siding with the prosecution. blagojevich just came down from the courtroom about ten minutes ago and addressed the media very briefly. he didn't take any questions. said he was going home to be with his two daughters, explain to them where they were going from here and said he will be, quote, fighting on. so expect an appeal in this case. one thing to note, he doesn't have to report until february 16th to the bureau of prisons. so he does have this time to spend with his family but the former governor of illinois will spend 14 years -- was sentenced to 14 years in prison. >> i'm curious, since he does get to go home for those 90 day
