during my inaugural address i told the story about t a family moving to a new community. that one that was kind, caring, just like the community they were coming from. that story it showed as a simple truth. you often get what you look for. after that story, i said that the majority of rhode islanders the overwhelming majority of rhode islanders want to look for the best in their states. and the best and their fellow rhode islanders. that fictional story was told by a hall of fame basketball coach, someone i have admired since i was a growing up with my brothers and sisters in cumberland. reminded me of another story from october 2021. when a flight landed at our airports, with some of the first afghan refugee families arriving in rhode island. eagerly awaiting at the airport was jonathan, a rhode island or who works at providence college. jonathan had spent years communicating with a man. an afghan translator of the military. thanks to jonathan's help and his wife and children were able to flee afghanistan. they are now here in rhode island and part of our community. to
