i am not concerned about whether the new t-mobile will go after verizon or at&t.hink every one of them wants a high paying customer side. i think the commissioners have made the right decision because it really does protect the low income customers, which are the ones we need to be concerned about. the high end customers, you know that the new t-mobile will be fighting tooth and nail with verizon and at&t to get those customers. it is the prepaid part, which verizon does not play in. at&t has only started to warm up to it. and no doubt, t-mobile and sprint have the lion's share of those prepaid customers. i was surprised because i thought the doj would have liked that. another part of was surprising was that the vestager of spectrum. i thought that was something the doj would have preferred to have happened. that would have been a much better condition for the merger to go through. i am surprised that was not mentioned, but having said that, they made the right decision. emily: and the promises they have made, as i understand it, the sale of the prepaid brand, adv

you have the two smaller players, t-mobile and sprint.them would create third powerhouse that could compete at the same scale in terms of numbers of subscribers. they could spread their cost more easily across consumers. the flipside of that is you are eliminating that for carrier. that fourth network. you will the competition for that. there is also something at stake for the company -- companies. it has been a struggle for sprint to raise subscribers against these large competitors. they can spread across a large number of subscribers. that has been a difficult project for the guy who owns softbank. is big stakes for them in this merger. they need to get it across in order to move into the next day. -- state. next is 5g. as part of the conditions offered by t-mobile and sprint, they vowed to produce a five g network and compete with the other two big providers to provide those kinds of services. >> we are hearing this merger could have a few boats -- votes at the fcc. the doj could be leaning against this merger. we had never seen them

that is going to be left to the new t-mobile to sort out. doj comes on board, are they going to play a role in that? there are certain people who should buy it or certain people who shouldn't be buying it. i'm waiting to hear the details because at this stage, they are very light. emily: the fcc would still need to vote on the deal even though the chair said he would endorse it. we spoke to fcc commissioner brendan carr earlier and take a listen to what he had to say. >> part of our years long review at the fcc has been looking at competition issues. when you look right now, a combined sprint-t-mobile would have the same size and scale of verizon and at&t in terms of customers for the first time. what our record showed is that there would be big benefits for consumers in terms of the new competition you would see. emily: so, it sounds like he is in favor. an indication about how the rest of the fcc feels despite the potential pushback from the doj? david: no, i think you would expect that. the fcc is controlled by ajit pai. there are three r
