these are investors you would not normally see in things, fidelity, t rowe. they play all rounds, but i think you see a lot of these that would have gotten into the public marketplace at fidelity getting involved now. you have a very interesting business that plays in this as well. >> fidelity, t. rowe price, blackrock's of the world are getting involved in companies that historically, the good old days, they would have already gone public. they have done an amazing job in investing in growth companies. there has been a real void and you see the hedge fund stepping into that void and they see it as a way to get a toehold in great businesses earlier. there still a gap in the marketplace. >> a company like pinterest will be competing for ad dollars with the likes of google, facebook, twitter. jon erlichman, how do we know for sure that they're going to be able to win those ad dollars? >> i think they are in a great position because people go to pinterest with intent. one thing that makes google so valuable is the thing that you go there and search for something

ken allen runs the t. rowe price science and technology fund. it has an annualized return of 24%. he joins us now from baltimore. ken, welcome to the "halftime" show. good to see you again. >> thanks, scott. good to see you. >> what are we to make of this continued selling in some of the so-called high fliers, in technology especially? >> you guys have hit on the key dynamics going on here. what i would point out in addition to some of those things, it's clear over the next several years a lot of the growth in the tech industry will come from cloud computing and internet. the problem is we've been in an environment where the growth is high in those areas, but the multiples are even higher. i would say that the key thing looking forward from here, and we've been through a lot in the last couple of months, but the key thing i'm looking at now is which are these opportunities in the sell-off, and i think we'll get into those. but i think there are pretty attractive opportunities with these stocks, a lot of them being off 30%-plus in the last couple of months. >> we've heard from even

some of that based on historical hedge fund like fidelity and t rowe coming down and they have a growthnthing with funds. that's one of the dynamics going on in the market right now. the main thing making this happen is it's one of the best times in the last two decades in the world of enterprise as we the should -- as we see the .hift to cloud computing it never been easier to sell enterprise ruddock's. now when you sell, there are five different paths. you can sell the sale, so how you can sell, the way you can sell, how quickly these companies can grow, we've never seen in 20 years. even on the enterprise side, you see a company like box delay its ipo. would you say these companies are tracked by their valuations? >> ultimately, the choice for each of those companies whether they want to accept the price these companies are willing to pay. that's why brought up the delta between the public and private markets. can they go public? absolutely, but they may not like the valuations they get. why not stay private longer? valuations are bouncing around because we are in a choppy some of thos

. >> well, it's interesting, t. rowerice did a study that dual class share structures actually aren't performing that well? >> that's interesting, because the investments in some of these fields are private. it's interesting that they're going against their own best advice as an investing company. think of yahoo!, a company that has had a lot of problems for a long time. activist shareholders get involved because they can take large positions in the company. they demand some board seats in ways that aren't possible at alibaba and fix a company that isn't broken. alibaba and yahoo! are joined at the hip. investors would think at some level, historic performance of dual class shares or the notion that the shareholders willfully have control of the company they own, there is additional risk with a listing like this, it's more difficult for them to go public given their adding this risk to the company. >> leslie, what are you hearing from potential investors, how do they feel about this structure and is it going to deter the
