host: tacoma, washington. cheryl, on the democrats' line. caller: good morning. i am wondering, ambassador, how the french government is responding to the fact that because of the french economic oppression of demanding the country of haiti prepay for the french loss of the slave trade, how france can be taking the high moral ground here when their economic oppression has set the generation of poverty in motion. when haiti looks to the small haitian communities here, their identity with france is only language and a share more of the western ideals. i am wondering how france is responding to that historical responsibility? guest: on the question of history there will be much to say, but that is about the past and we really have to look at the future, about france's responsibility, the history of haiti, we could go on for hours. i would not like to bother you with that. but i think it is important to say that there is no arrogant attitude on the part of france, really. we are very humble on that field. we want to help haiti today, and we are not trying to lecture
