his brother, mark, takes it over to the taffy machine to pull the candy by hand. >> this is where it gets [indiscernible] >> the air makes it easier to buy into the canes. is during this step that peppermint oil is added and the candy becomes a pearly white. >> it is going to get whiter. >> from here, the candy is shaped into a loaf and the stripes are attached. >> real quick, we will apply to the stripes. as he is applying them, he is rolling them in between each stripe. he has to make sure those are married, that they will not come off. they will seal onto the hot candy. fry and to keep the candy soft enough to pull and role into canes. on deck. and they need to work quickly. >> if you' re goofing around, you will end up with a giant cane. over. >> the weather has to be right to make these. if it is warm and rainy, they will not set and be sticky. when rolled and cut, the elves form them into the perfect canes. >> the perfect hook looks something like this. with a flat back curled around and in. >> each year, she and her daughters get into the holiday spirit by helping out here on
