here's an update from tahoe city. >> reporter: hello from tahoe city where my photographer and i had to spend the night last night because the driving conditions were horrendous. we were talking to some folks from the bay area who got stuck on interstate 80. you may remember cal trans shut that road down for several hours because of zero visibility. driving conditions were very dangerous. we were experiencing very high winds. the winds were picking up and shoving heavy flurries of wet snow into our news van. we were getting ice on the windshield so we decided the best option and the safest option was to stay here in tahoe city. when we woke up in the morning this is what we saw. feet and feet of now outside our hotel. we saw the staff busy, hard at working shoveling the snow out of the parking lot. and over here take a look at what looks like used to be a pickup truck covered in snow. it hasn't stopped snowing since yesterday so they've gotten several, several inches of snow. we weren't the only ones from the bay area who got stuck in tahoe city last night. we spoke to a guy who stay

tahoe, truckee, tahoe city, seeing snow flurries. this does give you a good glimpse of what's going on there. partly clear conditions out there and then those dark storm clouds, this is over at the tahoe/truckee airport and definitely also noticing some of the winds flapping around there. the flags flying because the winds are so strong up there. that's a wind advisory through 4:00 throughout the lake tahoe area. they are seeing wave heights two to three feet. so it's going to be impacting mostly tahoe, sunrise officially at 6:30 this morning. sunset tonight 6:10. because we are seeing a break in the clouds, most likely you will get a good view of that this morning. and this afternoon, we'll see sunny conditions. so warmer weather expected later. 66 for oakland. 67 degrees expected for fremont. so today, this afternoon, we are looking at sun and clouds, morning drizzle, and then tomorrow, we are also going to see a very slight chance of some drizzle. saturday, sunday, we'll get some moisture coming up from the south. that subtropical

you can see at squaw creek in lake tahoe, we do have some clear conditions. all of that fresh powder 28 degrees. so how do the numbers stack up as we just pause and take a look at things. right now we are 43% of normal to date across the central sierra, which includes lake tahoe. only 39% of the april average and a equivalent of 11.5 inches. at this point we need about ten more feet of snow to at least get us back closer to where we should be during this time of the year. and in terms of the rainfall totals, yes, we did see a lot. several inches for the bay but not good enough for our deficit. take santa rosa, since the water started on october 1st, 15.33 inches but still running a 13.03 deficit. in fact, all of the bay area in the deficit column. we do have several chances of rainfall coming our way over the next seven days but still a slow climb to catch up. tomorrow is mild. high clouds. instead of cold weather, we have mild 70s coming back. 70 in santa rosa and also for napa and concord and morgan hill and san jose and san francisco at 64. so the biggest

heavy snow continues in the sierra where a blizzard warning is in place in the greater lake tahoe area. extremely dangerous whiteout conditions are expected tonight into early friday morning. on the satellite you can see the low still spinning off the coast. it's not in a hurry to move so it will continue to spin more showers our way through saturday. more snow is likely over our local mountains and snow levels could drop as low as 1,500 feet. it will be a mix of sunshine and showers tomorrow with cool highs only in the upper 40s and 50s. showers and cool weather continue on saturday. sunday looks moslt sunny and dry and slightly warmer. another storm is possible by wednesday. what is the latest on interstate 80 with traffic trying to get up to lake tahoe? >> the vehicles are able to go through. at this point we're holding the trucks because things are messy over donner summit. at this point in time, traffic is moving through the area. and there are no significant slowdowns. >> so you're holding the trucks. where are you stopping the trucks? and what are they supposed to do? just pull off to the shoulder or go to truck stops? what's going on? >> they are doing a number of things. some of them pull over on the side of the road. and others pull off into areas where they know they can park their trucks for a little while. we're holding at apple gate on the western side and the at state line nevada on the western -- eastern side. >> do you have any idea how long you'll be holding them? >> that we don't know. what we do is we like to be able to move the vehicles over the summit first and make sure that they don't get tangled up and the road conditions are enough to get them safely over the pass. as soon as we see that happening if weather co
